Magnetic And Electrocatalytic Properties Of Transition Metal Doped Mos2 Nanocrystals, Karthik Chinnathambi

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this paper, the magnetic and electrocatalytic properties of hydrothermally grown transition metal doped (10% of Co, Ni, Fe, and Mn) 2H-MoS2 nanocrystals (NCs) with a particle size 25–30 nm are reported. The pristine 2H-MoS2 NCs showed a mixture of canted anti-ferromagnetic and ferromagnetic behavior. While Co, Ni, and Fe doped MoS2 NCs revealed room temperature ferromagnetism, Mn doped MoS2 NCs showed room temperature paramagnetism, predominantly. The ground state of all the materials is found to be canted-antiferromagnetic phase. To study electrocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction, polarization curves were measured for undoped and the doped …

Thermal And Mechanical Energy Harvesting Using Lead Sulfide Colloidal Quantum Dots, Taher Ghomian Oct 2018

Thermal And Mechanical Energy Harvesting Using Lead Sulfide Colloidal Quantum Dots, Taher Ghomian

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The human body is an abundant source of energy in the form of heat and mechanical movement. The ability to harvest this energy can be useful for supplying low-consumption wearable and implantable devices. Thermoelectric materials are usually used to harvest human body heat for wearable devices; however, thermoelectric generators require temperature gradient across the device to perform appropriately. Since they need to attach to the heat source to absorb the heat, temperature equalization decreases their efficiencies. Moreover, the electrostatic energy harvester, working based on the variable capacitor structure, is the most compatible candidate for harvesting low-frequency-movement of the human body. …

Nowadays, most organizations store their business data in digital formats. With the increasing use of digital data, data breaches are more often and serious in recent years. Therefore, it is very important for next-generation engineers to be aware of the importance of information security, and be able to recognize vulnerabilities and threats to an information system and design user-friendly and effective security measures. To achieve it, two modules of information systems security, including lectures and in-class labs, were developed and taught …

Study Of Physical Layer Security And Teaching Methods In Wireless Communications, Zhijian Xie, Christopher Horne Oct 2018

Study Of Physical Layer Security And Teaching Methods In Wireless Communications, Zhijian Xie, Christopher Horne

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

In most wireless channels, the signals propagate in all directions. For the communication between Alice and Bob, an Eavesdropper can receive the signals from both Alice and Bob as far as the Eavesdropper is in the range determined by the transmitting power. Through phased array antenna with beam tracking circuits or cooperative iteration, the signals are confined near the straight line connecting the positions of Alice and Bob, so it will largely reduce the valid placement of an Eavesdropper. Sometimes, this reduction can be prohibitive for Eavesdropper to wiretap the channel since the reduced space can be readily protected. Two …

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research and Publications

In this study, embedded strain sensors based on the principle of piezoresistivity were fabricated by epoxy-based composites filled with different contents of carbon nanofibers (CNFs). The piezoresistive performances and relevant parameters including gauge factor, linearity, repeatability and hysteresis of these sensors were investigated. A compensation circuit was proposed to eliminate the influence of temperature on sensing signals of the sensors. The CNFs/epoxy sensors were embedded into concrete cylinders to monitor their compressive strains under monotonic and cyclic loadings, thereby assessing practical applications of the CNFs/epoxy sensors as strain sensors for monitoring concrete structures. The results indicate that the sensors containing …

A New Thickness-Based Accelerated Aging Test Methodology For Resin Materials: Theory And Preliminary Experimental Study, Yanlei Wang, Xue Zhang, Gaochuang Cai, Baolin Wan, Danièle Waldmann, Yuan Qu

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research and Publications

This paper proposes a novel accelerated test method based on the thickness of resin materials. This method is to overcome the adverse influence of high temperature on the reliability of experimental results of the accelerated tests widely adopted in the current practice. To verify the proposed thickness-based accelerated method (ThAM), an experimental investigation was conducted focusing on the water absorption and tensile properties of epoxy resin. The results suggest that the existing temperature-based accelerated method (TAM) cannot be applied when the test temperature is high as in this case the degradation mechanism of materials is probably changed. The acceleration factor …

Construction Of Fuzzy Risk Assessment Models., T.F Bekmuratov, B.T Solieva

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The tasks of making decisions on risk assessment, depending on the conditions of uncertainty, are divided into two types: decision-making tasks under conditions where the initial data are stochastic; decision-making tasks under conditions when the initial data are of a non-stochastic nature, and the necessary confidence limits for the parameters of the processes under investigation are unknown or unclear. In problems of the second type, risks are manifested to a greater extent than the first, since in solving problems it is necessary to take into account not only statistical uncertainty, but also linguistic. At the same time, one should consider …

Application Of Wavelets For Forming Discrete Selections Of Continuous Signals., H.N Zaynidinov, M.B Zaynutdinova, I. Yusupov

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The paper deals with theory questions, as well as examples of calculations based on modern basis functions with compact carriers for solving problems of forming discrete samples of continuous signals with finite energy. The method is based on the law of asymptotic attenuation of the values of the wavelet coefficient moduli to zero as n → ∞, and the speed of their motion to zero depends on the choice of the wavelet. This method can be defined as the summation of the octave energy components of the coefficients of fast wavelet transformations with the binary law of decreasing sampling steps.

This paper is devoted to a multi-criterial approach to solving of optimization problem of construction of interval and fuzzy information granules. Validity of the proposed approach is proved by numerical examples.
