Uv Visible Spectra Analysis Of High Temperature Water Gas Shift Catalysts Made From Iron, Lanthanum, Copper, And Chromium Oxides, Jared C. Brown May 2012

Uv Visible Spectra Analysis Of High Temperature Water Gas Shift Catalysts Made From Iron, Lanthanum, Copper, And Chromium Oxides, Jared C. Brown

Theses and Dissertations

Hydrogen is a vital component in several different chemical reactions as well as a potential fuel source for the future. The water gas shift (WGS) reaction converts CO and water to hydrogen and CO2. The objective of this work is to first, characterize the potential benefits of the addition of lanthanum oxide (lanthana) to the iron-chromium-copper (Fe-Cr-Cu) oxide catalysts industrially used in high temperature water gas shift processes, and second, analyze these catalysts using in-situ UV-Visible spectroscopy. The benefits of each component in the catalyst are discussed as well as potential benefits from the addition of lanthana. Lanthana is a …

No, Burnout, Flame Temperature, Emissivity, And Radiation Intensity From Oxycombustion Flames, Darrel Patrick Zeltner May 2012

No, Burnout, Flame Temperature, Emissivity, And Radiation Intensity From Oxycombustion Flames, Darrel Patrick Zeltner

Theses and Dissertations

This work produced the retrofit of an air-fired, 150 kW reactor for oxy-combustion which was then used in three oxy-combustion studies: strategic oxy-combustion design, oxy-combustion of petroleum coke, and air versus oxy-combustion radiative heat flux measurements. The oxy-combustion retrofit was accomplished using a system of mass flow controllers and automated pressure switches which allowed safe and convenient operation. The system was used successfully in the three studies reported here and was also used in an unrelated study. A study was completed where a novel high oxygen participation burner was investigated for performance while burning coal related to flame stability, NO, …

Quantized Hall Effect And Shubnikov-De Haas Oscillations In Highly Doped Bi2se3: Evidence For Layered Transport Of Bulk Carriers, Helin Cao, Jifa Tian, Ireneusz Miotkowski, Tian Shen, Jiuning Hu, Shan Qiao, Yong P. Chen

Birck and NCN Publications

Bi2Se3 is an important semiconductor thermoelectric material and a prototype topological insulator. Here we report observation of Shubnikov-de Hass oscillations accompanied by quantized Hall resistances (R-xy) in highly doped n-type Bi2Se3 with bulk carrier concentrations of few 10(19) cm(-3). Measurements under tilted magnetic fields show that the magnetotransport is 2D-like, where only the c-axis component of the magnetic field controls the Landau level formation. The quantized step size in 1/R-xy is found to scale with the sample thickness, and average similar to e(2)/h per quintuple layer. We show that the observed magnetotransport features do not come from the sample surface, …

Overlapping Partitioning Techniques For Simulation Of Strongly Coupled Distributed Interconnects, Mina A. Farhan, Natalie M. Nakhla, Michel S. Nakhla, Ramachandra Achar, Albert E. Ruehli May 2012

Overlapping Partitioning Techniques For Simulation Of Strongly Coupled Distributed Interconnects, Mina A. Farhan, Natalie M. Nakhla, Michel S. Nakhla, Ramachandra Achar, Albert E. Ruehli

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The large number of interconnects in high-speed circuits is a major bottleneck for fast simulation of such circuits. Recently, waveform relaxation methods based on transverse partitioning (WR-TP) were proposed to address this issue. It was shown that the complexity of WR-TP grows only linearly with the number of lines. However, as the coupling between the lines becomes stronger, the WR-TP algorithm either fails to converge or the number of iterations required for convergence increases. in this paper, an overlapping partitioning method for WR-TP is presented, which overcomes the effect of strong coupling between the lines. Numerical examples are presented which …

Agent-Based Modeling Of Emergency Building Evacuation, Vi Q. Ha May 2012

Agent-Based Modeling Of Emergency Building Evacuation, Vi Q. Ha

Master's Theses

Panic during emergency building evacuation can cause crowd stampede, resulting in serious injuries and casualties. Agent-based methods have been successfully employed to investigate the collective human behavior during emergency evacuation in cases where the configurational space is extremely simple - usually one rectangular room - but not in evacuations of multi-room or multi-floor buildings. This implies that the effect of the complexity of building architecture on the collective behavior of the agents during evacuation has not been fully investigated. Here, we employ a system of self-moving particles whose motion is governed by the social-force model to investigate the effect of …

Biomechanical Testing On Cadaveric Spines For Different Treatments That Affect Lumbar Stability, Sabrina Alejandra Gonzalez Blohm May 2012

Biomechanical Testing On Cadaveric Spines For Different Treatments That Affect Lumbar Stability, Sabrina Alejandra Gonzalez Blohm

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Stenosis is one of the most common causes for spinal surgery. Laminectomy decompression and fusion are surgical procedures prescribed for this condition. The intention of this work was to investigate the effects of a laminectomy decompression, followed by fusion, on a lumbar functional spinal unit (FSU) through in vitro dynamic (±8Nm at 0.125Hz) and quasi-static (±7.5Nm at 0.1Hz) biomechanical tests, for flexion, extension, bending and rotation motions.

Six FSUs where disarticulated from four human cadaveric lumbar spines (63 ± 12 years) and were tested under the following sequence: (1) intact, (2) laminectomy decompression, and (3) Pedicle Screw System (PSS), using …

Cloning And Characterization Of Sas0754, A Hypothetical Protein From Community Associated Staphylococcus Aureus, Unknown Unknown May 2012

Cloning And Characterization Of Sas0754, A Hypothetical Protein From Community Associated Staphylococcus Aureus, Unknown Unknown

Symposium 2012

Community associated Staphylococcus aureus (strain MSSA476) is a gram positive cocci capable of infecting many different parts of the body and known to cause serious infections that can be fatal, such as bacterial arthritis and acute endocarditis. To find effective ways of fighting against CA-MRSA strains we must learn more about their ability to infect. The focus of this study was cloning and characterization of a protein referred to as SAS0754. The size of SAS0754 is 340 amino acids and the gene sequence is 1023 nucleotides. The hypothetical function of this protein is that it is an extracellular matrix binding …
