Knowledge Management Determinants Of Continuance Behavior: Evaluating The Air Force Knowledge Now Knowledge Management System, Eric Tucker
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Knowledge management (KM) encompasses the set of capabilities, processes, tools, and techniques for the most effective use of knowledge by an organization. The goal of KM is to improve the organization's ability to create, transfer, retain, and apply knowledge. Knowledge management is a goal that many organizations seek to achieve. Organizations apply their strategies, plans, and implementation to achieve KM. Organizations use technology to implement their KM strategy. For some, this approach has worked well; however, for others, the results have fallen short. KM shortcomings revolve around employees' infrequent use of the technology. This research seeks to understand what influences …
Establishing Degradation Rates And Service Lifetime Of Photovoltaic Systems, Albert Leyte-Vidal
Establishing Degradation Rates And Service Lifetime Of Photovoltaic Systems, Albert Leyte-Vidal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As fossil fuel sources continue to diminish, oil prices continue to increase, and global warming and CO2 emissions keep impacting the environment, it has been necessary to shift energy consumption and generation to a different path. Solar energy has proven to be one of the most promising sources of renewable energy because it is environmentally friendly, available anywhere in the world, and cost competitive. For photovoltaic (PV) system engineers, designing a PV system is not an easy task. Research demonstrates that different PV technologies behave differently under certain conditions; therefore energy production varies not only with capacity of the system …
Class-E Cascode Power Amplifier Analysis And Design For Long Term Reliability, Karan Kutty
Class-E Cascode Power Amplifier Analysis And Design For Long Term Reliability, Karan Kutty
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the Class-E power amplifier operating at 5.2 GHz. Since the operation of this amplifier applies a lot of stress on the switching transistor, a cascode topology was applied in order to reduce the drain-source voltage stress. Such an amplifier was designed and optimized in order to improve stability, power added efficiency, and matching. A layout for the said design was then created to be fabrication-ready using the TSMC 0.18 um technology. Post-layout simulations were performed in order to realize a more realistic circuit performance with the layout design in mind. Long-term stress effects, such as oxide breakdown, …

Microstructural Investigation Of Precipitation Hardened Cuni2s+Zr Alloys For Rotor Applications, Jean-Paul Vega-Garcia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Industrial generator components experience high stresses and electrical fields during their service life. Material integrity is key in guaranteeing component performance. CuNi2SiZr, used as rotor wedges in generators, serve to maintain rotor slot content in place while experiencing high centrifugal stresses and low cycle fatigue during start and stop at elevated temperature. The quality and integrity of this material in service can be directly related to its microstructure, which is determined by the processing procedures of the wedges. In this study, the microstructure development in this material is evaluated to eliminate grain boundary defects by optimizing processing parameters, determining the …
Analyzing Instructtion Based Cache Replacement Policies, Ping Xiang
Analyzing Instructtion Based Cache Replacement Policies, Ping Xiang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The increasing speed gap between microprocessors and off-chip DRAM makes last-level caches (LLCs) a critical component for computer performance. Multi core processors aggravate the problem since multiple processor cores compete for the LLC. As a result, LLCs typically consume a significant amount of the die area and effective utilization of LLCs is mandatory for both performance and power efficiency. We present a novel replacement policy for last-level caches (LLCs). The fundamental observation is to view LLCs as a shared resource among multiple address streams with each stream being generated by a static memory access instruction. The management of LLCs in …
A New Development Of Feedback Controller For Left Ventricular Assist Device, Yu Wang
A New Development Of Feedback Controller For Left Ventricular Assist Device, Yu Wang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The rotary Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) is a mechanical pump surgically implanted in patients with end-stage congestive heart failure to help maintain the flow of blood from the sick heart. The rotary type pumps are controlled by varying the impeller speed to control the amount of blood flowing through the LVAD. One important challenge in using these devices is to prevent the occurrence of excessive pumping of blood from the left ventricle (known as suction) that may cause it to collapse due to the high pump speed. The development of a proper feedback controller for the pump speed is …

Feasibility Study Of Lightweight High-Strength Hollow Core Balsa-Frp Composite Beams Under Flexure, Kevin O'Neill
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The United States of America's Military, more specifically the Army, has since the late 1990's had a vested interest in the development of super-lightweight, portable, short-span composite bridge and decking components to replace aging heavy metal-alloy machine driven modular systems. The following study looks at the feasibility of using balsa wood as the structural core material in fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapped hollow-core composites in short-span bridge applications. The balsa provides shear resistance and the FRP the flexural resistance, resulting in extremely high strength-to-weight and strength-to-depth ratios. Several scaled short span specimens were constructed and tested using a variety of …

Optimized Market Introduction Of Large Capital Products (Lcp) With Long Development And Learning Cycles, Antje Lembcke
Optimized Market Introduction Of Large Capital Products (Lcp) With Long Development And Learning Cycles, Antje Lembcke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Any product sold is expected to be reliable and available when the customer wants to operate it. Companies that produce large capital products (LCP), such as rockets, satellites, or large gas turbines to generate electrical energy, tend to shy away from extending their testing and validation method above the requirements by law, mainly due to the very high costs of each additional test and the uncertain return on investment. This research shows that today’s state of the art validation methods for LCP, required by law, or suggested in literature, and adapted by these industries, are not capable of capturing all …

Power Distribution Network Inductance Calculation, Transient Current Measurement And Conductor Surface Roughness Extraction, Fan Zhou
Masters Theses
"The first part in the thesis discussed the modeling of the mid-frequency inductance for Zpp type plane pairs in power distribution networks (PDN). It is a key step for the placement of the decoupling capacitors. This paper gives an efficient approach for the calculation of the inductance for different capacitor placements. The PEEC based formulations takes advantage of the opposite currents in the planes. This leads to compute time reductions and memory savings for both the element calculation and the matrix solve step. A formulation is used where placement of capacitors leads to only small changes in the circuit matrix. …

Microalgae Harvesting By Flocculation With Polymer-Coated Magnetite Particles, Humayun Shariff
Masters Theses
"Although microalgae are considered to be one of the potentially significant feedstock for renewable biofuels, harvesting them efficiently from culture ponds has been a major hurdle. The conventional harvesting methods such as centrifugation and filtration are very time and labor intensive processes. Gravimetrical settlement with the aid of cationic flocculants is the most widely employed technique, but suffers from the difficulty in recovering microalgae floes. Furthermore, recycling of these flocculants after the harvesting process is not possible. Polymer-coated magnetite particles have been investigated for applications in various fields. This research has focused on the development of a novel and efficient …

Physics Faculty Publications
The Sr1−xCax3Ru2O7 solid solution series exhibits complex magnetic ground states, ranging from an itinerant metamagnetic state, to a quasi-two-dimensional 2D heavy-mass nearly ferromagneticFM state, and finally to a long-range antiferromagnetically ordered state Z. Qu et al. Phys. Rev. B. 78, R180407 2008. In this paper, we investigate the evolution of structural distortion and magnetic anisotropy with Ca content in this material system. Our results show that both the magnetic phase transitions and magnetic anistropy of this system couple with the evolution of structure distortion. The transformation from the itinerant metamagnetic to the nearly ferromagnetic state is accompanied …

Transit-Based Emergency Evacuation Modeling With Microscopic Simulation, Hana H. Naghawi
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Several recent mass evacuations, including those in advance of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Hurricane Rita in Houston, have demonstrated the effects of limited planning for carless populations. The lack of planning left a significant portion of the mobility-limited population of both these cities unable to flee in advance of the storms. Since 2005 however, both of these cities (as well as others across the United States) have developed transit assisted mass evacuation plans at various levels of detail. Since these plans are relatively recent and do not have a history of experience on which to base their performance, …
