Synthesis And Characterization Of Crosslinked Urethane Doped Polyesters For Vascular Tissue Engineering, Jagannath Dey Jan 2008

Synthesis And Characterization Of Crosslinked Urethane Doped Polyesters For Vascular Tissue Engineering, Jagannath Dey

Bioengineering Theses - Archive

Traditional crosslinked polyester elastomers are inherently weak, and the strategy of increasing crosslink density to improve their mechanical properties makes them brittle materials. Biodegradable polyurethanes, although strong and elastic, do not fare well in dynamic environments due to the onset of permanent deformation. The design and development of a soft, strong and completely elastic (100% recovery from deformation) material for tissue engineering still remains a challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis and evaluation of a new class of biodegradable elastomers, crosslinked polyurethane-doped polyesters (CUPEs), which is able to satisfy the need for soft, strong, and elastic biomaterials. Tensile strength of …

Development Of Novel Multilayered Particles For Drug Delivery And Cell Isolation Applications, Bhanuprasanth Koppolu

Bioengineering Theses - Archive

The objective of this work is to develop multilayered nanoparticles for drug delivery and cell isolation applications. These particles principally consist of three layers; biodegradable polymer, thermo sensitive polymer and magnetic materials. For drug delivery, multilayered nanoparticles (MLNP) consisting of a magnetic core and two encompassing shells made up of temperature sensitive polymer, poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm), and biodegradable polymer, poly(D, L lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA), were developed for targeted and controlled drug delivery. The PNIPAAm layer was immobilized onto magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) via a silane coupling agent, Vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), and free radical polymerization. These particles were then encapsulated with PLGA using a …

Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Rayleigh Flat Fading Outage Capacity Using Channel Estimation, Chris G. Potter, Kurt Louis Kosbar, Adam Panagos

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Upper and lower bounds on the outage capacity for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Rayleigh flat fading wireless baseband communication environment are derived for the case when the channel is completely unknown at the transmitter and the receiver has access to channel state information (CSI) via pilot estimation. The bounds show that the channel estimation error significantly impacts the outage capacity. A change in the outage probability is also shown to have a larger impact on the outage capacity when the channel estimation error is small. To get an idea of how these bounds are affected by a temporally correlated channel, …

Who Is Reading The Data On Your Old Computer?, Vivienne Mee

Journal of Digital Forensics, Security and Law

Researchers at Rits Information Security performed a study in how the Irish population disposes of their old computers. How would you dispose of your old computer, or how would the company you work for dispose of their old computers?

The majority of Irish homeowners, would bring their old computers to local civic amenity centres, give it away to a relative or sell it on to another party.

Some organisations would give their old equipment to a staff member, as a gift gesture, others may simply discard in the local civic amenity site.

What is wrong with the methods currently being …

Web-Scale Workflow: Integrating Distributed Services, M. Brian Blake, Michael N. Huhns

Faculty Publications

Modular applications, components, and services are all ways of describing the product of an organization's efforts to embody its capabilities in autonomous software modules. In fact, the integration of services using well-established workflow paradigms could amplify an organization's capabilities with the creation of a full-blown, inter-organizational system of systems. This is the essence of Web-scale workflows. Considering the recent popularity and acceptance of service-oriented technologies, the application of such distributed systems is only limited by imagination, but it's also important to understand existing research challenges and their implications to various Web-scale workflow domains.

Information sharing in organizations, especially the impact of sharing freely versus not sharing, was studied using game theory and agent based simulation. A game theoretic analysis was performed, and Netlogo simulations were carried out wherein some agents hoarded information while others shared information. As expected, sharing was found to greatly increase the overall amount of information within the organization. Unexpectedly, agents who share acquire more information than hoarders. This is due to the synergy that develops between groups of agents who are sharing with each other. The density of the agents is important-as the density increases, the probability increases that …
