Production Of Construction Materials Using Advanced Recycling Technologies, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
Waste reduction, material reuse, and use of recycle-content products can be focused on the management system somewhat. In contrast, material recycling is the technical issue how to create new materials using wastes. Thus, three advanced recycling technologies; 1) Synthetic Lightweight Aggregate technology (SLA), 2) Clean Coal Technology (CCT), and 3) RP-1 Polymer Identification System are introduced.

Sensors For Scaps, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
The Site Characterization and Analysis Penetrometer System (SCAPS) platform consists of a 20-ton truck equipped with vertical hydraulic rams that are used to force a cone penetrometer into the ground at a speed of 2 cm/sec to depths of approximately 50 m in nominally consolidated fine-grained soils when using a 100-m umbilical cable (25 m when using 50-m umbilical cables). The SCAPS program is currently conducting field verification investigations on state-of-the-art penetrometer mounted sensor and sampler systems for the real-time in situ detection of petroleum products, explosive compounds, volatile organic compounds (VOC), solvents, and gamma emitting radionuclides.
Storm Chamber Technology For Storm Water Storage And Gray Water Management And Reuse, Purdue Ect Team
Storm Chamber Technology For Storm Water Storage And Gray Water Management And Reuse, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
StormChamber™ is an open bottom, arch-shaped, HDPE infiltration chamber which functions in both permeable and non-permeable soils for subsurface retention, detention, recharge and reuse of storm water, or gray water, designed to overcome the deficiencies of other technologies. It provides a higher level of nutrient and pollutant removal by taking advantage of the natural biological and physical properties of the soil. StormChamber™ systems mimic pre-development conditions by putting post-construction run off back into the ground approximately where it used to go, maintaining base flow to streams, wetlands, lakes, ponds and countering salt-water intrusion in coastal areas.

Rp-1 Polymer Identification System : Recycler Of Plastics, Purdue Ect Team
Rp-1 Polymer Identification System : Recycler Of Plastics, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
It has been noticed that one of the primary obstacles in recycling is the lack of sufficient means to avoid cross contamination during collection. In particular, the new method to quickly and easily identify materials has been demanded in plastic industry due to the dramatic acceleration of plastic consumption in the last forty years. SpectraCode's new technology enables the instant point-and-shoot identification of black plastics, extracting a definitive signature from most black plastics in half a second or less. This speed is achieved through a modified probe that uses a sampling technique SpectraCode calls distributed focusing. This technology, when used …
Dma™: Digestion Material For Asbestos, Purdue Ect Team
Dma™: Digestion Material For Asbestos, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
Current techniques for removing asbestos- containing fireproofing require the construction of air-tight barriers, labor- intensive scraping of the fireproofing, and the installation of new asbestos-free fireproofing. The DMATM product is the result of a joint development by W.R. Grace & Co. and Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory. The new technology uses a foamy solution sprayed directly onto asbestos-containing fireproofing. After absorbing into the fireproofing, the foam chemically digests asbestos fibers and dissolves them into harmless minerals. The process is the first to chemically destroy asbestos without first removing the fireproofing.

Robotized Spraying Of Grc Panels, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
The manual manufacturing process of GRC panels consists of two or four consecutive stages, depending on the panel type. The robotized spraying process is controlled by three (3) main modules which are executed sequentially or in parallel, depending on the task. The first module utilizes a common CAD environment with access to information relating to the manufacturing tools and parameters and to the design rules for the product. The off-line module is divided into three different submodules: kinematic control, path planning and task planning.

Jet-Grouting Constructed Laminar Diaphragms, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
The high cost of digging and hauling contaminated soil has made enclosure of the contaminated soil an alternative to prevent contamination of ground water and adjacent sites. The jet-grouting method uses special grout nozzles to create a grout sheet of controlled width and thickness from each drilled grout hole. This sheet is commonly 100 mm. to 150 mm. in thickness, 2 to 3 meters in width, and of any desired length. The width of the sheet in one pass can go up to 6 meters. Actual lateral soil penetration of the grout jets is a function of the nature of …

Emerging Video Surveillance And Monitoring Technologies, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
The traditional video surveillance applications have some limitations; 1) one unit per one person in one place, 2) the limited area for surveillance due to the location of cameras 3) increasing operating cost, 4) hard reductions in theft and claim rates over the long term. Recently, video technology has grown by leaps and bounds throughout the last few years due to the steep development of Information Technology (IT). The newest video surveillance technologies seem to be taking two aspects: 1) Digital Video Surveillance (DVS) of a turn toward digital video servers using Internet access, and 2) Multi-modal User Interface (MUI).

In Situ Remediation Using Horizontal Wells, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
Horizontal well technology has been widely used in petroleum and underground utility installation. Since late 1980's, the technology has been adapted for environmental remediation applications. Two general methods in drilling horizontal wells have been used in remediation, trenched and directionally-drilled. The first method involves the excavation of a relatively large diameter borehole, with simultaneous installation of well materials and backfill. The second method, directional drilling, produces a smaller diameter borehole and well materials are installed following the completion of drilling activities.

Plasma Arc Torch Technology, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
For many years, in-situ thermal vitrification has been recognized as one method to remediate contaminated soils and help stabilize land fills. However, the complexity of the process and the uncertainty of the results have limited the use of this remediation technique.A plasma is a gas that has been ionized by the electric arc of a plasma torch and can therefore respond to electrical and magnetic fields. Plasma arc technology can create plasma using almost any type of gas (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, air, etc.) and in a wide range of pressures (vacuum to 20 atmospheres). The process of plasma remediation of …

While landfills are the predominant form of solid-waste disposal for municipalities in the U.S., people are objecting to the establishment of new landfills in their communities. Decreasing availability of land, worries about potential health problems and a growing concern for the environment have made the disposal of solid waste a challenge. This technology represents a safety improvement. There is no need for contaminated soil transportation and handling. The need for disposal landfills disappears. Any type of radioactively contaminated buried waste unit, which because of its high activity represents significant risk for exhumation and re-disposal, would be a potential application for …
