taC∶N films are a good materials for semiconductor electrodes. But further studies are hampered by the ohmic contact problem, which occurs between the silicon and the lead.By studying the influence of heat treatment on the film's property,it is believed that ohmic contact should be made on the silicon first, and then the film be deposited.A set of taC∶N electrodes with various nitrogen content have been prepared.CV study indicates that the cathodic limits move slowly to positive direction.while the anodic limits are unchanged with the increasing of nitrogen content. As a result, the electrochemical windows get narrow either.

Designing Cold-Formed Steel Using The Direct Strength Method, B. W. Schafer
CCFSS Proceedings of International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel Structures (1971 - 2018)
The Direct Strength Method is an entirely new design method for cold-formed steel. Adopted in 2004 as Appendix 1 to the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, this paper introduces the Direct Strength Method and details some of the features of a new AISI Design Guide for this Method. The intent of this paper and the Guide is to provide engineers with practical guidance in the application of this new design method. The Direct Strength Method does not rely on effective width, nor require iteration for the determination of member design strength. Instead, the engineer …
Estimation Of Liquidus Temperature When Snagcu Bga/Csp Components Are Soldered With Snpb Paste, Jianbiao Pan
Estimation Of Liquidus Temperature When Snagcu Bga/Csp Components Are Soldered With Snpb Paste, Jianbiao Pan
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Recently, the soldering of lead-free components with SnPb paste, or lead-free backward compatibility, is becoming a hot topic. One of the major challenges in backward compatibility assembly is the development of a right reflow profile for the soldering of SnAgCu Ball Grid Array (BGA)/Chip Scale Package (CSP) components with SnPb paste. If the SnAgCu reflow profile is used, the reflow temperature may be too high for other SnPb components in the same board during assembly according to the component rating per IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C. In addition, the flux in SnPb solder paste may not function properly in such a high reflow …

Storm-damaged homes offer the opportunity for repairs that reduce energy use, improve comfort and enhance resistance to future storms. Case studies of four Florida homes damaged in the summer of 2004 were documented to show the costs and benefits of various retrofit strategies. All four homes required roof replacement and each took advantage of roof cladding with higher reflectance than the original, a proven means of reducing cooling energy use. Two of the case studies included improvements to attic insulation, tightening of the envelope and/or duct system and improved efficiency equipment and lighting. Energy savings attributable to storm repairs were …
Recovering Grain Boundary Inclination Parameters Through Oblique Double-Sectioning, Eric Richards Homer
Recovering Grain Boundary Inclination Parameters Through Oblique Double-Sectioning, Eric Richards Homer
Theses and Dissertations
A method for the retrieval of grain boundary inclination parameters of the grain boundary character distribution by oblique double-sectioning is proposed. The method, which is similar to the recovery of the orientation distributions from sets of incomplete pole-figures, is described along with a framework for implementation. The method directly measures grain boundary inclinations in a manner similar to serial sectioning while statistically sampling the microstructure comparably to stereological methods. Computer simulations of the method were used to confirm the mathematical framework. Additional simulations, where the grain boundary normal distributions were recovered by both oblique double-sectioning and stereological methods, showed that …

Systematic Design Process For Slanted Graing Couplers,, Gregory P. Nordin, J. Jiang, B. Wang
Faculty Publications
We have developed a systematic design process for recently proposed slanted grating couplers (SGCs) that operates in the strong coupling regime. Based on rigorous analysis of SGC properties, this design process utilizes the k-vector diagram and a rigorous grating leaky-mode solver to intentionally enforce the phase-match and Bragg conditions. We demonstrate that the resultant SGC designs have performance similar to those obtained by parallel micro-genetic algorithm (µGA) optimization with the twodimensional finite-difference time-domain (2D FDTD) method. Only two 2D FDTD simulations are necessary in the later stages of our systematic design process. Therefore the time saving is tremendous compared to …

Analysis Of The Sediment Transport Capabilities Of Feswms Fst2dh, Mark K. Ipson
Theses and Dissertations
Many numeric models simulate the transport of sediment within rivers and streams. Engineers use such models to monitor the overall condition of a river or stream and to analyze the impact that the aggradation and degradation of sediment has on the stability of bridge piers and other features within a stretch of a river or stream. A model developed by the Federal Highway Administration, FST2DH, was recently modified to include the simulation of sediment movement within a channel. The tools for modeling sediment movement with FST2DH remain unproven. This thesis examines the sediment capabilities of FST2DH. It evaluates the sediment …

Since its appearance, rapid prototyping technology has been of interest to various industries that are looking for a process to produce/build a part directly from a CAD model in a short time. Among them, the direct metal deposition process is the only process which directly manufactures a fully dense metal part without intermediate steps. However, challenges of the direct metal deposition process include building overhang structures, producing precision surfaces, and making parts with complex structures. Coupled between the additive and the subtractive processes into a single workstation, the integrated process, or hybrid process, can produce a metal part with machining …

Freeform Extrusion Of High Solids Loading Ceramic Slurries, Part Ii: Extrusion Process Control, Michael S. Mason, Tieshu Huang, Robert G. Landers, Ming-Chuan Leu, Greg Hilmas
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Part I of this paper provided a detailed description of a novel fabrication machine for high solids loading ceramic slurry extrusion processes and presented an empirical model of the ceramic extrusion process, viewing ram velocity as the input and extrusion force as the output. A constant extrusion force is desirable as it correlates with a constant material deposition rate and, thus, good part quality. The experimental results used to construct the model demonstrated that a constant ram velocity will not necessarily produce a constant extrusion force. In some instances the extrusion force increased until ram motor skipping occurred, and process …
