Tanks and earthen embankments used for water harvesting and storage have been a significant part of India's irrigation system since the 2nd and 3rd centuries. In Tamil Nadu, around 39,202 tanks have storage capacities of around 178.94 million cubic feet. However, they have been impacted by natural and anthropogenic threats such as soil erosion, siltation, inadequate rainfall, and drought. This study aims to determine the current storage capacity of tanks, estimate the loss in storage capacity/volume of silt, estimate the rate of siltation and life of tanks, identify soil erosion-prone zones, and map deteriorating parameters along supply channels.

Hurricane Michael struck Tyndall Air Force Base as a Category 5 storm with 160 mph winds, damaging or destroying 90% of its infrastructure (484 buildings). This devastation prompted the Department of Defense to rebuild Tyndall as the “Installation of the Future,” encompassing 44 Military Construction (MILCON) projects and 260 Facility Restoration, Sustainment, and Modernization (FRSM) projects. Since reconstruction began, over 630 Change Request Forms (CRFs) have been closed, adding $67.8 million in costs and 4,880 construction days. Using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for data transfer, visible light communication (VLC) presents a strong substitute for radio frequency communication. Yet, because of the non-linearity of LEDs, conventional Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) approaches in VLC are limited regarding spectrum efficiency, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), and system linearity. Multi-carrier asymmetrically Clipped Optical OFDM (MADO-OFDM) is introduced in this study. Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRSs) are transforming next-generation wireless networks by enabling dynamic control of the propagation environment for improved localization and security. This thesis advances Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) and distance estimation in IRS-assisted systems using a hybrid architecture with active sensing and passive reflecting elements. A modified MUSIC algorithm, optimized for near-field localization, decouples 2‑D AoA and 1‑D range estimation using a grid-and-peak pseudo-spectrum scan, achieving sub-degree AoA (0.003 rad) and sub-meter range (0.05 m) accuracy with over 100× lower complexity than classical 3D MUSIC.

This thesis introduces a novel qubit architecture: the ferromagnetic exchange-coupled spin ensemble qubit (E-qubit), designed to address the noise-induced instability. In this work, the time evolution of the ensemble’s density matrix is studied using the Liouville–von Neumann equation. To benchmark against a single-spin qubit, the gate fidelity of an E-qubit is computed in the presence of thermal noise. Coherence time is also analyzed under identical thermal condition and a linear scaling is observed with qubit size . This thesis explores an application of reinforcement learning (RL) in maintenance optimization. Recent advances in hardware-accelerated computation and deep learning have made RL a powerful tool for solving optimization problems which are too complex for traditional methods. Maintenance optimization involves improving the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance activities through data-driven approaches, ultimately reducing costs and increasing asset availability. Making informed maintenance decisions is crucial to long-term sustainability.

This qualitative phenomenological descriptive study explored corporate instructional design experts' perspectives on effectiveness, personal traits and attributes, and technology that enhance their expertise. Three central themes emerged: "Mastering Instructional Design: The Journey of Continuous Learning and Skill Development," highlighting the importance of mentorship, lifelong learning, and professional development; "Accessing Instructional Design Expertise Through Individual Strengths," emphasizing adaptability, problem-solving, and empathy; and "Navigating Technological Integration and Innovation in Instructional Design," showcasing the transformative role of tools such as virtual reality, learning management systems, and authoring software.
