This paper represents a systematic investigation on the best model predicts the temperature and soot production in coflow jet flame, by applying various RANS turbulent model, soot models and radiation models in presence or absence of gravity. This study investigates heat transfer and pressure drop for rib-roughened square channel without bleed. To optimize the shape of rib, CFD tools were used to model and simulate channel flow with a variety of rib angles and geometries. To validate simulations and determine the turbulence model, experimental results for two-pass channels with ribs at 45˚ angles with BR = 0 and Re = 25,000 was compared. It was found after conducting simulations with different turbulence models that SST turbulence model gave the best results.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) offer tremendous potential for simple and low-cost solution-based fabrication with high power conversion efficiency, making it a promising renewable energy source alternative to the most common non-renewable energy sources as fossil fuels. The most widely used perovskite for solar cell applications is methylammonium lead triiodide (CH3NH3PbI3). The two structures for PSC are the regular nip device typically fabricated using Spiro- OMeTAD as a hole transport material (HTM), and the inverted pin device fabricated using PEDOT:PSS as a HTM. Motivated by the U.S. EPA goals, this research developed a framework to support identification and restoration of nutrient-impaired water bodies. The study objectives were developing total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) prediction models, evaluating the impact of social indicators on assessing recovery potential, and developing a spatial decision support system for choice and placement of best management practices (BMPS). The goal of this research was to reveal the underlying mechanisms of damage mitigation in these materials and the role that interface, and relevant material component interactions play in the overall material response. In late August 2016, a sinkhole spanning 45 feet (13.7 meters) in diameter opened at a phosphate fertilizer facility (Mosaic Company) near Mulberry, Florida, leaking an estimated 215 million gallons (813,000 cubic meters) of radionuclide-contaminated water 300 feet into the Floridan aquifer. In this study, syngas combustion was investigated behind reflected shock waves in order to gain insight into the behavior of ignition delay times and effects of the CO2 dilution. Pressure and light emissions time-histories measurements were taken at a 2 cm axial location away from the end wall. High-speed visualization of the experiments from the end wall was also conducted. Oxy-syngas mixtures that were tested in the shock tube were diluted with CO2 fractions ranging from 60% - 85% by volume. A 10% fuel concentration was consistently used throughout the experiments. Seismocardiographic (SCG) signals are the acoustic and vibration induced by cardiac activity measured non-invasively at the chest surface. These signals may offer a method for diagnosing and monitoring heart function. Successful classification of SCG signals in health and disease depends on accurate signal characterization and feature extraction. In this study, SCG signal features were extracted in the time, frequency, and time-frequency domains. Different methods for estimating time-frequency features of SCG were investigated. From the viewpoint of quantum mechanics, a system must always be Hermitian since all its corresponding eigenvalues must be real. In contrast, the eigenvalues of open systems-unrestrained because of either decay or amplification-can be in general complex. The solid-state laser is one of the most widely used lasers in scientific research and industrial applications. This thesis describes detailed investigations of two modern architectures of high power cw solid-state lasers, a 20 W diode-pumped Yb:YAG thin disc laser and 300 W diode-pumped Nd:YAG rod laser. With the thin disc laser architecture, the signal beam must fit to the pump area on the disc defined by the multi-pass diode pump configuration. The beam propagation, beam diameter, phase and thermal effects for various cavity configurations are investigated theoretically and experimentally.
