Rf Cmos Tunable Gilbert Mixer With Wide Tuning Frequency And Controllable Bandwidth: Design Sythesis And Verification, Xin Hu

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

The double-balanced Gilbert mixer is widely used in RF receivers. In general, it is desirable to design a wide tuning frequency Gilbert mixer for low power, high conversion gain, low noise figure, and good linearity, but they are not easy to attain simultaneously. Therefore, trade-offs always exist by tuning design parameters. To observe the trade-off relationship between each tunable parameter and to make a mixer achieve specified requirements easily (i.e., tuning frequency range, bandwidth, and power), an automated design synthesis and verification approach for Gilbert mixer is proposed. A wide tuning CMOS Gilbert mixer design synthesis while keeping the local …

A third-generation of solar cell is based on organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials. These have reached up to 22.1% conversion efficiency through exponential growth just within the last decade, compared to much longer improvement times for other photovoltaic technologies. Lead halide perovskites are among the most commonly used materials in this context. Despite the relatively large number of available works on some of these materials, in particular CH3NH3PbI3, others are less investigated. Here, we focused on CH3NH3PbCl3, CH3NH3PbBr3 and CH3NH3PbI3 for assessing structure stability and optical response. Using quantum-mechanics-based first principles approaches, we calculated the optimized structures of these three materials …

Improvement Of Continuous Wave Radar Measurements In A Partially Controlled Environment, Jared Smith Jan 2017

Improvement Of Continuous Wave Radar Measurements In A Partially Controlled Environment, Jared Smith

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

A continuous wave (CW) radar system within a partially controlled environment measures scale model aircraft for mono-static and fully polarimetric radar imaging. Due to a pseudo-far-field setup, wavefront curvature manifests primarily as geometric distortion. Recently proposed phase error models show induced geometric distortion to be independent of aperture size which are verified via measurement for Sensors and Signals Exploitation Laboratory (SSEL) collections. The partially controlled nature of the SSEL introduces stray infrastructural reflections into the measured data. Three methods to reduce stray signals are explored namely: true background subtraction (TBS), running average (RA), and spatial filtering (SF). Of the three …

Imperative to genomic stability is the ability of the cell to repair damaged DNA which can occur from numerous endogenous byproducts of metabolism or exogenous components from the environment. The Fanconi anemia pathway is a DNA repair mechanism used by human cells to resolve multiple forms of DNA damage including interstrand crosslinks (ICL). Fanconi anemia (FA) is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder characterized by genome instability, developmental abnormalities, cancer predisposition and bone marrow failure. FA is attributed to a mutations in at least 18 genes (FANCA-FANCT) that play a concerted role in DNA repair. FANCT is the latest discovery in …

Oclep+: One-Class Intrusion Detection Using Length Of Patterns, Sai Kiran Pentukar Jan 2017

Oclep+: One-Class Intrusion Detection Using Length Of Patterns, Sai Kiran Pentukar

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

In an earlier paper, a method called One-class Classification using Length statistics of (jumping) Emerging Patterns (OCLEP) was introduced for masquerader detection. Jumping emerging patterns (JEPs) for a test instance are minimal patterns that match the test instance but they do not match any normal instances. OCLEP was based on the observation that one needs long JEPs to differentiate an instance of one class from instances of the same class, but needs short JEPs to differentiate an instance of one class from instances of a different class. In this thesis, we present OCLEP+, One-class Classification using Length statistics of Emerging …

Low-Velocity Impact Behavior Of Sandwich Panels With 3d Printed Polymer Core Structures, Andrew Joseph Turner

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Sandwich panel structures are widely used in aerospace, marine, and automotive applications because of their high flexural stiffness, strength-to-weight ratio, good vibration damping, and low through-thickness thermal conductivity. These structures consist of solid face sheets and low-density cellular core structures, which are often based upon honeycomb topologies. The recent progress of additive manufacturing (AM) (popularly known as 3D printing) processes has allowed lattice configurations to be designed with improved thermal-mechanical properties. The aim of this work is to design and print lattice truss structures (LTS) keeping in mind the flexible nature of AM. Several 3D printed core structures were created …

Conditional Correlation Analysis, Sanjeev Bhatta Jan 2017

Conditional Correlation Analysis, Sanjeev Bhatta

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Correlation analysis is a frequently used statistical measure to examine the relationship among variables in different practical applications. However, the traditional correlation analysis uses an overly simplistic method to do so. It measures how two variables are related in an application by examining only their relationship in the entire underlying data space. As a result, traditional correlation analysis may miss a strong correlation between those variables especially when that relationship exists in the small subpopulation of the larger data space. This is no longer acceptable and may lose a fair share of information in this era of Big Data which …

Persistent Inward Currents Play A Role In Muscle Dysfunction Seen In Myotonia Congenita, Ahmed Alaa Hawash

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Myotonia congenita is a rare skeletal muscle channelopathy caused by a reduced chloride channel (ClC-1) current, which results in debilitating muscle hyperexcitability, prolonged contractions, and transient episodes of weakness. The excitatory events that trigger myotonic action potentials in the absence of stabilizing ClC-1 current are not fully understood. My in vitro intracellular recordings from a mouse homozygous knockout of ClC-1 revealed a slow after-depolarization (AfD) that triggers myotonic action potentials. The AfD is well-explained by a tetrododoxin-sensitive and voltage-dependent Na+ persistent inward current (NaPIC). Notably, this NaPIC undergoes slow inactivation over seconds, thus providing the first mechanistic explanation for the …

Choroid plexus epithelial cells (CPECs) secrete cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and regulate its electrolyte composition. CPECs express both the Na+/ K+ ATPase and the Na+/ K+/ 2Cl- cotransporter 1 (NKCC1) on their apical membrane (CSF facing), deviating from the typical basolateral membrane location in chloride secretory epithelia. Given this unusual location of NKCC1 and the unknown intracellular Na+ and Cl- concentrations of CPECs, the cotransporter function in these cells is not understood. Further, the direction of net ion and associated water fluxes mediated by NKCC1 under basal physiological conditions in CPECs is controversial. Determining the direction of NKCC1- mediated fluxes is …
