A Real-World, Hybrid Event Sequence Generation Framework For Android Apps, Jun Sun Aug 2021

A Real-World, Hybrid Event Sequence Generation Framework For Android Apps, Jun Sun

School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Generating meaningful inputs for Android apps is still a challenging issue that needs more research. Past research efforts have shown that random test generation is still an effective means to exercise User-Interface (UI) events to achieve high code coverage. At the same time, heuristic search approaches can effectively reach specified code targets. Our investigation shows that these approaches alone are insufficient to generate inputs that can exercise specific code locations in complex Android applications.

This thesis introduces a hybrid approach that combines two different input generation techniques--heuristic search based on genetic algorithm and random instigation of UI events, to reach …

There are several ways that energy use and storage size can be computed for agricultural field operations, such as planting, using theoretical predictions, gathering engine load data from tractor’s Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, or integrating the CAN data to determine the actual power used by implements.

While measuring data from the CAN bus is a great way to capture actual tractor use information, …

Biofiltration Application At Ethanol Plants: Analysis Of Aqueous Streams And Treatment Of Vocs, Katie Marie Mowat Aug 2021

Biofiltration Application At Ethanol Plants: Analysis Of Aqueous Streams And Treatment Of Vocs, Katie Marie Mowat

Department of Environmental Engineering: Theses and Other Student Research

The United States used 14.5 billion gallons of the biofuel ethanol in 2019 produced primarily (82%) in dry-mill corn ethanol plants. These plants produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — some of which are hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) — during production. Traditional treatment methods for gaseous emissions use a large quantity of water or natural gas. Thus, a bio-trickling filter (BTF) is considered an innovative alternative treatment method. A lab-scale BTF was used in this study to look at the effect of ethanol concentration and temperature on the treatment of a HAPs mixture. Gaseous and aqueous testing were performed on the …

Probabilistic Seismic Vulnerability Assessment Of Freestanding Historic Monuments, Marie E. Wagner

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Seismic events can cause significant damage to structures, especially to freestanding structures which are not fixed to the ground and are free to rock independently. This thesis will study the response of freestanding statues and monuments to ground motions and develop probabilistic models for overturning, in order to assist in retrofitting and repair efforts. To do this, single and dual block system models were created with a variety of sizes, aspect ratios, and asymmetries, then subjected to several historic ground motions to determine whether they overturn using three-dimensional distinct element analysis as a result of rocking, sliding or twisting in …

Thermomechanical Modeling In Laser Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing Using Graph Theory: Application To Prediction Of Recoater Crash, Md Humaun Kobir

Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This work pertains to the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing process. The objective of this thesis is to predict a frequently occurring type of thermal-induced process failure in LPBF called recoater crash. To ascertain the likelihood of a recoater crash before the part is printed, we develop and apply a computationally efficient thermomechanical modeling approach based on graph theory.

Despite its demonstrated ability to overcome the design and processing constraints of conventional subtractive and formative manufacturing, the production-level scaleup of LPBF is hindered by frequent build failures. For example, the part often deforms as it is being printed …

Efficient Polyhydroxyalkanoate Production By Rhodopseudomonas Palustris From Lignocellulosic Biomass, Brandi Brown

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are biopolymers produced by bacteria with the potential to replace conventional plastics. However, the relatively high production costs of PHAs are keeping them from market acceptance, with approximately half of the production costs derived from the feedstock. Thus, engineering a microbe for PHA production from cheaper and renewable carbon sources is necessary to promote the valorization of PHAs. Lignocellulosic biomass is considered to be one of the most economic carbon sources in the world, and is thus an attractive candidate for cheaper production of bioplastics. Rhodopseudomonas palustris CGA009 is a metabolically robust bacterium capable of catabolizing lignin breakdown …

Establishing Safe Operating Speeds For Autonomous Vehicles: A Case Study From The Automated Skyway Express In Jacksonville, Florida, Andrew Loken Jul 2021

Establishing Safe Operating Speeds For Autonomous Vehicles: A Case Study From The Automated Skyway Express In Jacksonville, Florida, Andrew Loken

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) differ significantly from traditional passenger vehicles in both their behavior and physical characteristics. As such, the validity of the guidance provided in the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware, Second Edition (MASH 2016) is questionable in AV applications. Impact conditions specified in MASH 2016 are inextricably linked to the traditional vehicles underlying the estimates. For AV applications, conditions must be estimated from the ground up, stepping outside the guidance of MASH 2016. Herein, a method for evaluating existing infrastructure to support AV traffic is proposed. The method integrates traditional structural analyses with unconventional methods of estimating impact conditions. …

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Faculty Publications

Using alcohol-based disinfectants is an effective method for preventing the spread of COVID-19. However, non-traditional manufacturers of alcohol-based disinfectants, such as ethanol plants, need to undergo additional treatment to curb their impurities to limits set by the Food and Drug Association (FDA) to produce alcohol-based disinfectants. To transform them to disinfectant-grade alcohol, 17 process streams in a dry-mill ethanol plant were analyzed to determine the quality parameters for acetaldehyde, acetal, propanol, methanol, and water, including chemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, and nutrients. Results suggest that the process stream generated by the distillation column requires further treatment because the acetaldehyde …
