A Study Of The Pollution Of The Meramec River, William Quentin Kehr Jan 1943

A Study Of The Pollution Of The Meramec River, William Quentin Kehr

Professional Degree Theses

"Early in 1940 a project was undertaken for a complete survey of the Meramec River Basin. This project, of which the pollution study was a part, was one of the most extensive surveys made of an entire river basin and included detailed studies of soil erosion, land, use, pollution, rainfall, and recreation in the Meramec Basin. The pollution study covered that portion of the Meramec River from its confluence with the Mississippi River to Steelville, a distance of about 140 river miles; the Big River from its mouth to a point west of Flat River, a distance of 107 river …

Missouri Super Duty Refractories And Their Probable Application For Blast Furnace Linings, Charles Alfred Freeman Jan 1943

Missouri Super Duty Refractories And Their Probable Application For Blast Furnace Linings, Charles Alfred Freeman

Professional Degree Theses

"The use of Missouri Super Duty Refractories in steel plant service is not new, although their use in blast furnace service has been limited chiefly to stove installations. They have, however, been used in a sufficient number of places where severe operating conditions exist, so that they are a definitely known quantity and they have consistently shown much longer service under conditions of high temperatures and contact with slag and molten iron. One outstanding comparison of the service which these brick give over ordinary first quality brick is the bottom of a malleable iron furnace. Not first quality refractory has …

Bituminous Construction With Sandstone Aggregate Johnson County Project, Kentucky Highway Materials Research Laboratory

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

On April 25th detailed notes wore made on each station of this project, and it was decided that samples should be taken to represent each type of surface on the project. Seventeen samples ware selected as representative of the different types of mixes, and on May 6th and 7th samples fifteen inches in diameter were drilled from this project. These samples were selected to represent the variations in gradings and bitumen content.

A Study Of Methods For The Purification And The Removal Of Color From Trinitrotoluene Wash Waters, William Wilson Jan 1943

A Study Of Methods For The Purification And The Removal Of Color From Trinitrotoluene Wash Waters, William Wilson

Masters Theses

"Symmetrical Trinitrotoluene is stable in the presence of moisture, but the nonsymmetrical trinitrotoluenes permit replacement of a nitro group with the formation of a nitrated cresol and nitrous acid. Nitrated cresols form salts similar to the picrates. To avoid these nonsymmetrical trinitrotoluenes the Ordinance Department, U. S. A., requires that Grade I trinitrotoluene have a solidification point of at least 80.2⁰C.². Numerous methods for purifying the crude trinitrotoluene and others for separating the nitrotoluenes have been suggested"--Introduction, page 1.

A Resinous Molding Compound From Citrus Waste : Preparation Of Citrus Waste For Pressing, Disposal Of Distillery Slop And Dehydration Of Beef By Infra-Red Radiation., Wilbur P. Adams

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is a report on three investigations, Citrus waste Disposal, Distillery Slop Disposal, and Dehydration of Beet by Infra-red Radiation. The work on citrus waste consisted or the production of a resin tram citrus waste and phthall1c anhydride. The optimum molding conditions tor this cellulosic resin were established, and the effect of var1ation in the percentage of citrus waste to phthalic anhydride was determined. In the second part of the work, on the Disposal of Citrus Waste, the possibility was investigated of using soluble salts in the treatment of citrus waste prior to pressing. A series of experiments were …

Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering Tests On Light Beams Of Cold-Formed Steel, Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT Tests were conducted on nine beams with unstiffened top flanges, viz., 14-2 1/4-1,2,3; 16-2 1/2-1,2,3; 16-3,1,2,3. Beam 14-2 1/4 - 2 was the first to be spot-welded in our shop. This beam warped badly in welding and, when tested, failed at a much lower load thant the other two beams of the same type, due to initial distortion. For this reason the results of this test were discarded and are not included in this report. Beams 18-2 1/2 according to our drawing were to be of 18 ga. metal. It turned out, however, that all …
