Investigation Of Concrete Pavement Us-60 Between Versailles And Frankfort, Milton Evans Jr. May 1961

Investigation Of Concrete Pavement Us-60 Between Versailles And Frankfort, Milton Evans Jr.

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

A complete survey of the above project was made between April 27, and May 13, of this year to deter mine the condition of the pavement after the second winter of service. The data from this survey include all of the approximately ten miles of four-lane highway, Tables I and II; all of the cross-overs, Table III; and the ramps and connecting lanes in the interchanges, Tables IV and V. Table VI covers the areas where several surveys have been conducted and Table VII is a breakdown of the total defects by type for the whole project. These tables are …

Crustacean Gastroliths From The Jackson Eocene Of Louisiana

School of Mines and Metallurgy Bulletins

Wechesia louisianae, n. sp., is described from upper Eocene beds at Montgomery, Louisiana. Second species of the genus, it extends the range of Wechesia Frizzell and Exline from Claiborne (middle) Eocene and validates the generic diagnosis.

The Influence Of Water-Reducing Admixtures On The Curing Of Concrete, Wallace Don Budge May 1961

The Influence Of Water-Reducing Admixtures On The Curing Of Concrete, Wallace Don Budge

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The use of water-reducing admixtures in concrete has grown continuously since their introduction over 25 years ago, with a present estimated usage in the production of 25 million cubic yards of concrete annually in the United States alone. Opposition to anything added to concrete, other than cement, aggregates, and water, is gradually disappearing, and considerable recognition is being given to the value of using other ingredients.

The research contained in this study may be divided into two portions: tests to determine the rate of volume change of cement paste and compressive strength tests to indicate the effect of moist curing …

Roadside Weed And Brush Control With Chemicals, D. G. Shurig, Jean E. Hittle

Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Publications

This bulletin, developed primarily for the highway engineer and the county road supervisor, describes the more important herbicide materials available for roadsides, their recommended use, and application methods. Information is also provided to help county road officials develop better weed and brush control programs for county road systems. The last part of the bulletin covers details of planning a county-wide weed and brush control program.

Soil Moisture As A Factor In Streamflow Forecasting For Logan River, Utah, Yu Kam Fok May 1961

Soil Moisture As A Factor In Streamflow Forecasting For Logan River, Utah, Yu Kam Fok

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Purpose

Forecasting the annual water supply in an arid area by using the water content of snow on watersheds on some particular date, such as April 1, has become a very useful practice. Although these forecasts have given results of great practical value, they have sometimes been considerably in error. Seeking to minimize error, forecasters have incorporated various additional data such as temperature and antecedent rain to improve the relation between snow measurement and measured runoff.

Numerous methods have been suggested in the search for a reliable streamflow forecasting equation and various data have been used. Nearly all of the …

A Study Of Drift Mobility In Neutron Irradiated N-Type Germanium, William H. Closser Apr 1961

A Study Of Drift Mobility In Neutron Irradiated N-Type Germanium, William H. Closser

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

With the advent of the transistor in the late 1940's have come an entirely new field of engineering and a greatly renewed interest in solid state physics. This paper will be concerned in general with the electrical properties of these materials, and specifically drift mobility of the minority carriers in n-type germanium. The minority carrier in n-type material is the hole. The definition of drift mobility is: the mean carrier velocity per unit electric field.

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT GENERAL CONDITIONS East tractor is a production model equipped for common usage. Power consuming accessories can be disconnected only when it is convenient for the operator to do so in practice. Additional weight can be added as ballast if the manufacturer regularly supplies it for sale. The static tire loads and the inflation pressures muse conform to recommendations in the Tire Standards published by the Society of Automotive Engineers. PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE RUNS The engine crank case is drained and refilled with a measured amount of new oil conforming to specifications in the operator’s manual. The …

The Fields Of Electric Dipoles In Sea Water- The Earth-Air-Ionosphere Problem, Wallace L. Anderson Apr 1961

The Fields Of Electric Dipoles In Sea Water- The Earth-Air-Ionosphere Problem, Wallace L. Anderson

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

In the initial part of the following investigation; expressions will be obtained for the Hertz potential in three regions of arbitrary conductive and dielectric properties. The regions are separated from each other by two infinite parallel planes. In directions normal to these planes, the regions above and below the intermediate layer are considered to be of semi-infinite extent. The regions are individually homogeneous. An electric dipole is located in one of the semi-infinite media, which will be called medium 1. The intermediate layer is called medium 2, and the other medium 3.

Acceleration Of A Symmetric Plasmoid In An Axial Magnetic Bias Field, Richard Daniel Jones Apr 1961

Acceleration Of A Symmetric Plasmoid In An Axial Magnetic Bias Field, Richard Daniel Jones

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

A pulsed gas, electrodeless discharge, plasma accelerator facility has been developed for experimental studies of the coupling mechanism for the transfer of energy from a driving magnetic field to a plasma. Gas at low pressure is ionized by an azimuthal electrical field induced through the action of a rapidly varying axial magnetic field produced by the flow of current through a ring surrounding a confining glass shock tube. The tube is arranged to permit radial expansion of the ionized gas. Due to its conductivity, the plasma, once it is formed, can exclude the rapidly varying driving magnetic field for a …

Shape Factors For Conduction Of Heat, Harry J. Otway Mar 1961

Shape Factors For Conduction Of Heat, Harry J. Otway

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

The purpose was to measure the heat conduction shape factors for cylinders and square prisms enclosed by spheres and to estimate the accuracy of the following approximation. This approximation is that of matching the area of the cylinder or prism to an equivalent sphere and then applying the analytical solution for concentric spheres.
