Geodatabase And Modeling Code Used For Dynamic Landslide Hazard Maps In Eastern Kentucky, Nathaniel O'Leary, L. Sebastian Bryson

Earth and Environmental Sciences Research Data

We developed spatiotemporal landslide hazard maps (LHMs) using soil, hydrologic, and geomorphic parameters from the subaerial infinite slope factor of safety (FS) equation under unsaturated conditions. Soil properties were extracted from the NRCS WSS, while geomorphic variables were derived from a 1.5 m LiDAR-based DEM and ArcGIS Online. Soil moisture from Hydrus-1D, driven by precipitation and evapotranspiration (ET) data from Irrigation Manager, introduced temporal variability. Validation against known landslide sites showed spatial and temporal FS accuracy despite some false positives. We also developed a landslide susceptibility maps (LSM) after comparing three machine learning algorithms, with bagged trees achieving the highest …

Self-Optimized Agent For Load Balancing And Energy Efficiency: A Reinforcement Learning Framework With Hybrid Action Space, Bishoy Salama Attia, Aamen Elgharably, Mariam Nabil Aboelwafa, Ghada Alsuhli, Karim Banawan, Karim G. Seddik

Faculty Journal Articles

We consider the problem of jointly enhancing the network throughput, minimizing energy consumption, and improving the network coverage of mobile networks. The problem is cast as a reinforcement learning (RL) problem. The reward function accounts for the joint optimization of throughput, energy consumption, and coverage (through the number of uncovered users); our RL framework allows the network operator to assign weights to each of these cost functions based on the operator's preferences. Moreover, the state is defined by key performance indicators (KPIs) that are readily available on the network operator side. Finally, the action space for the RL agent comprises …

Stabilization Of Expansive Soil Using Geopolymers From Locally Available Resources, Anand Puppala, Miladin Radovic, Nripojyoti Biswas, Sopharith Chou, Oscar Huang

Data

Traditional calcium-based stabilizers are generally used to stabilize native expansive soils that are often found throughout Region 6. Due to their high carbon footprint, many studies are being conducted to identify a suitable green alternative for stabilizing expansive soils. Geopolymer (GP) received a lot of attention in the past few decades owing to its similar properties to that of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) yet with a lower carbon footprint. Previous studies have shown that metakaolin-based GP is an effective stabilizer to stabilize expansive soils. This study investigated the feasibility of stabilizing native expansive soils with GP synthesized with locally sourced …
