Elimination Of Noise In A Ship Cabin Using Multi-Layered Acoustic Boards: An Apso And Sa Approach, Min-Chie Chiu, Ho-Chih Cheng
Elimination Of Noise In A Ship Cabin Using Multi-Layered Acoustic Boards: An Apso And Sa Approach, Min-Chie Chiu, Ho-Chih Cheng
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
A high level of noise, combined with pure tones, is often encountered in ship's cabins, leading to severe psychological and physiological issues for the crew. To address this problem, an indoor noise abatement solution becomes necessary that utilizes efficient acoustic boards integrated with resonators, positioned along the inner walls of the cabin. However, the thickness of the acoustic boards must be strictly limited due to maintenance and operational considerations. This limitation results in insufficient sound absorption capabilities and a restricted range of tuned frequencies, as the resonating frequency of a standard Helmholtz resonator is closely tied to its cavity. A …

Evaluating The Connectivity Reliability Of The Seaborne Transportation Network Using Uncertainty Theory, Tianshou Liu, Haiyang Bian, Lin Feng, Chenyang Fan, Chaojun Ding, Grifoll Manel, Hongxiang Feng
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
The shipping network serves as the backbone of international trade. However, due to unstable geopolitical conditions, unexpected events have occurred frequently in recent years that have impacted the global shipping supply chain, and this has placed enormous pressure and had adverse effects on seaborne transportation. To measure the reliability of the global shipping network under unexpected events, we abstract the global shipping network into a small world network using uncertainty theory. A method is proposed for selecting (i) the optimal reliable path and (ii) the optimal reliable path with a maximum measurement under different confidence intervals. Our approach is then …

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
Haematococcus pluvialis is a microalga with significant potential due to its capacity to produce carotenoids with antioxidant and nutraceutical benefits. However, the cost of harvesting this microalga, constituting over 30% of total expenses in large-scale production, is a major concern. Efficient flocculation, aiding in cell separation from the culture medium, is crucial to address this issue. The study contrasted Bold’s Basal Medium (BBM) with Lopez-Chuken & Young nutrient solution (LC-Y). The heightened salt content in LC-Y plays a crucial role in fostering saline stress, which is essential for evaluating H. pluvialis flocculation, biomass yield, and carotenoid production. To assess stability …

Simulation Of Wave Propagation In Granular Particles Using A Discrete Element Model, Syed Tahmid Hussan
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The understanding of Bender Element mechanism and utilization of Particle Flow Code (PFC) to simulate the seismic wave behavior is important to test the dynamic behavior of soil particles. Both discrete and finite element methods can be used to simulate wave behavior. However, Discrete Element Method (DEM) is mostly suitable, as the micro scaled soil particle cannot be fully considered as continuous specimen like a piece of rod or aluminum. Recently DEM has been widely used to study mechanical properties of soils at particle level considering the particles as balls. This study represents a comparative analysis of Voigt and Best …

Skin lesion datasets used in the research are highly imbalanced; Generative Adversarial Networks can generate synthetic skin lesion images to solve the class imbalance problem, but it can result in bias and domain shift. Domain shifts in skin lesion datasets can also occur if different instruments or imaging resolutions are used to capture skin lesion images. The deep learning models may not perform well in the presence of bias and domain shift in skin lesion datasets. This work presents a domain adaptation algorithm-based methodology for mitigating the effects of domain shift and bias in skin lesion datasets. Six experiments were …

Zero-Shot Adaptation Of Molecular Generative Adversarial Network For Specific Protein Targets, Ravipas Aphikulvanich
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Drug discovery, crucial for identifying new potential drug candidates to treat diseases and improve health, is increasingly enhanced by deep learning approaches such as molecular generation models. However, creating drug candidates with desired properties, such as the quantitative estimate of drug-likeness (QED), synthetic accessibility (SA), and binding affinity (BA), remains a significant challenge, especially when training generative models for specific protein targets with limited pharmaceutical data. Addressing these challenges, this thesis presents Mol-Zero-GAN, a novel framework designed to generate drug candidates tailored to specific protein targets without additional data by employing zero-shot adaptation techniques and Bayesian optimization (BO). By fine-tuning …

This study addresses the challenge of chronic diseases like diabetes, requiring ongoing care. It aims to visualize revisit intervals affecting patient treatment using multi-level process mining and machine learning to identify factors causing missed appointments. Our research shows that patients with improvements have shorter revisit intervals than those deteriorating, with a P-value of 3.83x10%. A significant challenge is the high number of no-shows. Using PyCaret to compare 14 models, we found that the historical attendance of individual patients is a crucial factor in predicting no-shows, with an AUC score of 0.80 using the Gradient Boosting Clas-sifier. Our analysis suggests that …

Affinity-Based Multi-Character Storyboard Generation Using Rewrite Rules, Ram Sukkirtkijpibul
Affinity-Based Multi-Character Storyboard Generation Using Rewrite Rules, Ram Sukkirtkijpibul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
A game story contains interactions between characters as well as the game world. Certain genres of games such as Visual Novels and Role-Playing Games rely on their stories to attract players. There were several proposed algorithms for story generation. They focused mainly on story generation for one main character. To our knowledge, there has not been a generator with support for multiple main characters, where each main character has their own storyline that could overlap with other main characters’ stories. With multiple main characters, players can see the game world through different viewpoints, thus getting more immersed into the game's …
Scene Cut Detection In Short Videos Using Pre-Processing Techniques And Convolutional Neural Networks, Nina Lawankowit
Scene Cut Detection In Short Videos Using Pre-Processing Techniques And Convolutional Neural Networks, Nina Lawankowit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study presents a comprehensive approach to scene cut detection in videos using a combination of frame extraction and a Convolutional Neural Network (VGG16 model) with a Color Histogram method to prevent raw video file reconstruction. The main dataset contains 167,490 frames collected from various users on TikTok for the scene cut detection model development. However, since this research utilizes a modular design that consists of data preparation, data pre-processing, and model implementation stages, it promotes efficient use of resources and guarantees data safety. The results demonstrate that the model performs excellently in recognizing scene cuts. Specifically, video frames with …
