A mass balance simulation model for sorption in a packed bed reactor was developed. All of the terms in the model, consisting of constants of the porous media, and functions, were evaluated by independent laboratory studies. The kinetic term was determined in Part I. Two numerical schemes (an explicit scheme and an implicit scheme respectively) with corresponding computer programs were developed and made operational. They were not tested against laboratory column results due to long times necessary on the computer and corresponding high costs. A finite difference method is developed to solve the three-dimensional, steady, incompressible, potential flow equations obtained by using a potential function, o, and two mutually orthogonal stream functions, u and u*, to describe the flow. Problems are formulated in an inverse space where the potential function and the two stream functions are the independent variables, and the Cartesian coordinates x, y, and z are the dependent variables. The boundaries of the problem in the physical space, including the free surface, have known positions in the inverse space, so trial and error adjustments to the positions of the boundaries are unnecessary. …

An integrated value of soil moisture can be determine dby measuring the attenuation of vertically-polarized surface radio waves taht are propagated over the ground between a transmitting and receiving atenna. Soil moisture values in the root-zone region were measured over longitudinal distances typically ranging from 50 feet to 600 feet with good results. Integrated soil moisture measurements over greater distances are also possible. Received field strength of propaged radio surface waves closely matches theoretical calculations. The measurement is easily made and does not disturb the soil. Dense, green vegetation, such as alfalfa or corn, causes errors in measurement accuracy. Less …

All lest result s were determined from observed data obtained in accordance with SAE and ASAE test code or official Nebraska test procedure. First and second gears were not run as it was necessary to limit the pull in third gear to avoid excessive slippage. Fourth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth , fifteenth and sixteenth gears were not run as test procedure requires only six travel speeds. During maximum drawbar run in 3rd gear the transmission came out of gear twice making it necessary to hold the shift lever in place to complete the run.

Moment-Curvature-Thrust Relationships In Hybrid Members, Douglas Wrenn Fiala

In order to overcome the difficulties encountered in closed form solutions, moment-curvature-thrust relationships are developed for hybrid and nonhybrid cross sections utilizing an open form method. The use of horizontal sectors permits the inclusion of residual stresses and/or nonbilinear stress-strain relationships, if desired. Theoretical and experimental data are compared. Applications to circular tubes and other cross sections are discussed. Results indicate that open form solutions are feasible for calculating moment-curvature-thrust data. Hybrid cross sections are easily treated by open form solutions.

A digital video display system (DWDS) is disclosed for display of image, alphanumeric and other data on a cathode-ray tube (CRT) with sequential raster scan and two, four or eight gray shades. The DVDS includes a central processing unit for ac tivating the system, selecting the X (horizontal axis) and Z (in tensity modulation) modes, and designating the starting loca tion of two successive rasters of data from a memory accessed by a data multiplexer subsystem (DMS). A software program has been written which simulates the functions of the Minuteman D17B computer at the register transfer level. The simulation program is written in the FORTRAN Extended language to be used on the Intercom System (teletype) of a CDC 6600 computer system. The simulation program consists of a main program and eight subroutines. A programming language for the D17B simulation was formed which contains numbers and load codes, switches, and miscellaneous commands. Example programs run on the simulated computer have been included to show the types of output available.
