Terrain Constrained Stereo Correspondence, Gabrielle Inglis, Chris Roman Oct 2009

Terrain Constrained Stereo Correspondence, Gabrielle Inglis, Chris Roman

Graduate School of Oceanography Faculty Publications

There is a persistent need in the oceanographic community for accurate three dimensional reconstructions of seafloor structures. To meet this need underwater mapping techniques have expanded to include the use of stereo vision and high frequency multibeam sonar for mapping scenes 10's to 100's of square meters in size. Both techniques have relative advantages and disadvantages that depend on the task at hand and the desired accuracy. In this paper, we develop a method to constrain the often problematic stereo correspondence search to small sections of the image that correspond to estimated ranges along the epipolar lines calculated from coregistered …

Contribution Based Priority Assessment In A Web-Based Intelligent Argumentation Network For Collaborative Software Development, Xiaoqing Frank Liu, Maithili Satyavolu, Ming-Chuan Leu

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Decision making is an important aspect in a collaborative software development process which involves a complex process of conflict resolution. the priority of the participants plays a vital role in conflict resolution as the decision-making process involves many participants from multiple perspectives. the priority assessment methods used in the process so far are usually static in nature, i.e., the priorities of the participants remain constant throughout the decision-making process. in order to make the collaborative system closer to real world scenarios, we incorporate dynamic priority assessment into a web-Based collaborative system based on intelligent computational argumentation, which was developed in …

Analyzing The Video Popularity Characteristics Of Large-Scale User Generated Content Systems, Meeyoung Cha, Haewoon Kwak, Pablo Rodriguez, Yong-Yeol Ahn, Sue Moon

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

User generated content (UGC), now with millions of video producers and consumers, is re-shaping the way people watch video and TV. In particular, UGC sites are creating new viewing patterns and social interactions, empowering users to be more creative, and generating new business opportunities. Compared to traditional video-on-demand (VoD) systems, UGC services allow users to request videos from a potentially unlimited selection in an asynchronous fashion. To better understand the impact of UGC services, we have analyzed the world's largest UGC VoD system, YouTube, and a popular similar system in Korea, Daum Videos. In this paper, we first empirically show …

Cs 410/610: Theoretical Foundations Of Computing, Thomas Sudkamp Oct 2009

Cs 410/610: Theoretical Foundations Of Computing, Thomas Sudkamp

Computer Science & Engineering Syllabi

This course is an introduction to one of the fundamental topics in the theory of computer science: computability theory. Computability theory is concerned with determining whether there is an algorithmic solution to a problem. The study of computability uses the Turing machine as the basic computational model. A Turing machine is a random access, read-write, finite state automaton. Although the Turing machine provides a simple computational framework, the Church-Turing thesis asserts that any problem that can be solved in any algorithmic manner can be solved by a Turing machine.

Cs 480/680: Comparative Languages, Krishnaprasad Thirunarayan

Computer Science & Engineering Syllabi

This course will introduce fundamental concepts and paradigms underlying the design of modem programming languages. For concreteness, we study the details of an object-oriented language (e.g. Java), and a functional language (e.g., Scheme) . The overall goal is to enable comparison and evaluation of existing languages. The programming assignments will be coded in Java 5 and in scheme.

Ceg 770-01: Computer Engineering Mathematics, Yong Pei

Computer Science & Engineering Syllabi

Computer Engineering and Science students need proficiency in relevant applied mathematics to be able to discover and model difficult real-world computer engineering and science problems. The relationship of these problems to mathematical theory will be discussed. This course provides an introduction to linear and nonlinear programming, probability and stochastic process, and queueing theory. In addition to mathematical theory, appropriate applications will be presented.
