Applications Of Block Copolymer Films In The Field Of Electrochemical Energy Systems, Jing-Ze Li, Guo-Guang Chen, Di Mei, Wei Zou, Jian-Wen Li, Motonori Komura, Tomokazu Iyoda

Journal of Electrochemistry

A new series of amphiphilic liquid crystalline block copolymer thin films, having normally aligned and highly ordered nanocylinder array, were functionalized as anisotropic ion conducting materials by selectively infiltration. These ion-active nanocylinders are coaxially aligned and hexagonally arranged in a large area, which might be used as novel types of electrolyte films for electrochemical energy systems such as lithium ion battery, fuel cell, etc.Since the ordered cylinders can carry on and store the ions, the block copolymer films can be utilized as the advanced template to fabricate the ordered array of nanoporous, nanoparticles, and nanowires for the potential application in lithium ion battery as three dimensional electrode materials.

Cu Doping Lifepo_4 And Its Electrochemical Performance, Ming-Sen Zheng, Shan-Ke Liu, Shi-Gang Sun, Quan-Feng Dong

Journal of Electrochemistry

LiFePO4 and LiFePO4 doped with Cu2+ ions were synthesized by solid-state reactions. The structure of LiFePO4 and the Fe valence were analyzed by the XRD(X-ray diffraction) and XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) respectively. The Cu doping position in LiFePO4 is discussed. It has found that the volume of LiFePO4 by doping Cu2+ ions is reduced. The minim Cu2+ ions doping does not almost change the binding energy of Fe2p1/2 in LiFePO4.According to the experiment results,we conclude that most of the Cu2+ ions substitute the Fe2+ ions in LiFePO4 when a small amount of Cu2+ ions doping is occurred.

Their electrochemical performance was examined by charge_discharge cycling. The LiNi 0.71 Al 0.09 Co 0.2 O 2 compound showed a discharge capacity of 152 mAh/g after 20 cycles that corresponds to 97.4% capacity retention. The beneficial effect of co_doping with Al and Co elements was corro_borated by slow scanning cyclic voltammograms(SSCV),electrochemical impedance spectrum(EIS)and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) data on charged cathodes. These results show that the 2D_character of the crystal lattice was stabilized by co_doping with Al and Co, the phase transitions that occur during deintercalation or intercalation of Li_ions were significantly suppressed, and thermal stability in the charged state was also improved.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The improving effect of solid electrolyte film artificially imposed on carbon electrode was investigated. The result showed that both the charge/discharge capacity and first charge/discharge efficiency, to a certain extent, were enhanced, and the result also suggested the effectiveness of the substitution of the artificially imposed solid electrolyte film for the inherent passivating film which was formed on the surface of the carbon electrode while inserted in the electrolyte during charging or discharging. The Scanning Electron Microscope result displayed the compact and well defined morphology of the artificially imposed crystalline film.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The carbon powders and film electrode with core shell structure were prepared by carbonization in gas state with using refined coal as shell material and Artificial Graphite and Mesocarbon Microbeads (2 800 ℃) graphite as core material. Galvanostatic charge/discharge measurement showed that both steady charge/discharge capacity and first charge/discharge efficiency were improved. Cyclic voltammetry indicated that the peak at about 0.7 V vs. Li +/Li characteristic of decomposition of electrolyte got weakened, and a more compact film was formed. X ray diffraction measurement suggested the existence of amorphous carbon shell on the carbon powders and carbon film.
