Nebraska Tractor Tests

ABOUT THE TEST REPORT AND USE OF THE DATA

The test data contained in this report are a tabulation of the results of a series of tests. Due to the restricted format of these pages, only a limited amount of data and not all of the tractor specifications are included. The full OECD report contains usually about 30 pages of data and specifications. The test data were obtained for each tractor under similar conditions and therefore, provide a means of comparison of performance based on a limited set of reported data.

Spin-Up In A Tank Induced By A Rotating Bluff Body, R. Daniel Maynes, J. Klewicki, P. Mcmurty Jan 1999

Spin-Up In A Tank Induced By A Rotating Bluff Body, R. Daniel Maynes, J. Klewicki, P. Mcmurty

Faculty Publications

Spin-up of a turbulent flow in a cylindrical tank caused by a rotating bluff body has been investigated using flow visualization, fluid velocity measurements, and hydrodynamic torque measurements. During the spin-up process three distinct temporal regimes exist. These regimes are: (i) a build-up regime where the torque and the tangential velocity fluctuations in the close proximity of the body remain constant; (ii) a decay regime where these quantities decay with power-law relations; and (iii) a mean flow steady state where these values remain relatively constant. Experiments were conducted in two tanks differing in volume by a factor of 80 and …

The Presence Of Edge Contact And Its Influence On The Debonding Of Patched Panels, Anette M. Karlsson, W. J. Bottega Jan 1999

The Presence Of Edge Contact And Its Influence On The Debonding Of Patched Panels, Anette M. Karlsson, W. J. Bottega

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications

A formulation is presented which accounts for configurations of debonding patched cylindrical panels for which the edge of the debonded segment of the patch maintains sliding contact with the corresponding base structure. The formulation is incorporated with that which accounts for configurations for which a contact zone is present and for which no contact between the debonded segments of the patch and base structure occurs during debonding. Analyses are performed for two types of loading conditions: Applied circumferential tension and applied internal pressure. Results of numerical simulations based on analytical solutions of the problems of interest are presented in the …

The Dynamics Of Rotor With Rubbing, Jerzy T. Sawicki, Joe Padovan, Rabih Al-Khatib Jan 1999

The Dynamics Of Rotor With Rubbing, Jerzy T. Sawicki, Joe Padovan, Rabih Al-Khatib

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications

This paper presents the description of some phenomena associated with dynamic behavior of rotors interacting with stationary components. Numerical simulations show rotor vibration spectrum rich in subharmonic, quasi-periodic, and chaotic vibrations. The nonlinear calculation techniques are applied to demonstrate the changes of the vibration patterns for different operating conditions. Some conclusions are discussed with regard to unique characteristics of rub-induced rotor response, initial conditions, as well as appropriate ranges of system parameters. Of special interest are the changes in the apparent nonlinearity of the system dynamics as rubs are induced at different rotor speeds. In particular, starting with 2nd order …

Computation Of Flame Base Height Of A Turbulent Diffusion Flame Resulting From A Methane Jet, A. S. Kheireddine, S. K. Chaturvedi, T. O. Mohieldin Jan 1999

Computation Of Flame Base Height Of A Turbulent Diffusion Flame Resulting From A Methane Jet, A. S. Kheireddine, S. K. Chaturvedi, T. O. Mohieldin

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications

This work summarizes numerical results for a diffusion flame formed from a cylindrical tube fuel injector, issuing a gaseous methane jet vertically in a quiescent atmosphere. The primary objective is to predict the flame base height and other flame characteristics as a function of the fuel jet velocity. A finite volume scheme is used to discretize the time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations for the reacting flow resulting from the turbulent fuel jet motion. The turbulent stresses, and heat and mass fluxes are computed from a Reynolds stress turbulence model. A chemical kinetics model involving two-step chemistry is employed for the oxidation of …
