Modal Characteristics Of A Vibrating Truss, Edd Leighman Ghent Jr. Jan 1966

Modal Characteristics Of A Vibrating Truss, Edd Leighman Ghent Jr.

Masters Theses

"In this thesis, a complete technique is presented for the vibration analysis of any planar structure which can be classified in the broad category of trusses or frames. Although a theoretical backdrop is included for the' sake of completeness, the intent is to provide a technique that is readily adapted to computer usage and can be handled with a minimum of confusion or misunderstanding.

The problem is solved by the use of a displacement technique wherein the inertia and stiffness properties of a structure are calculated by superimposing the contributions of each component of the structure. The calculation of these …

The Effect Of Combined Torsional And Bending Loads On A Channel Beam With One End Restrained From Warping, David M. Schaeffer Jan 1966

The Effect Of Combined Torsional And Bending Loads On A Channel Beam With One End Restrained From Warping, David M. Schaeffer

Masters Theses

"Channel beams have been designed with the main purpose of giving large resistance to bending while the torsional strengths are known to be relatively small. In this experiment, a cantilevered channel beam was loaded with a concentrated load at the free end, first through the experimentally determined shear center and then through the centroid of the cross section. For each loading condition, the strains were measured with the aid of SR-4 strain gages placed at intervals along the length of the beam. With the aid of a computer, the strains were converted into longitudinal stresses and these stresses were compared …

Comparison Of Plastic Stress-Strain Material Properties As Determined From Conventional Experiments, Wen Mo Chen Jan 1966

Comparison Of Plastic Stress-Strain Material Properties As Determined From Conventional Experiments, Wen Mo Chen

Masters Theses

"In problems of engineering design, it is usually assumed that the stress-strain diagrams of a given material, as obtained from different loading conditions, are the same. In fact, by using the classical theory of plasticity, it can be shown that, with an appropriate selection of stress and strain related parameters, the diagrams should coincide.

Three different materials - magnesium, aluminum and steel, have been tested under tension, compression, torsion and bending loads. Stress-strain diagrams were constructed from these observations. This thesis presents an analysis of the relative agreement between the theoretical and experimental results of these materials"--Abstract, page i.

Siphon Tubes For Furrow Irrigation In The Kimberleys, K S. Cole Jan 1963

Siphon Tubes For Furrow Irrigation In The Kimberleys, K S. Cole

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Irrigation soils in the Ord River area have a high clay content and erode easily under the influence of running water.

To overcome the problem of erosion in cuts between the head channels and irrigation furrows polythene siphon tubes have been found the most satisfactory.

In this article K. S. Cole, B.Sc. (Agric), Agricultural Adviser, Kununurra, describes the use of siphon tubes for furrow irrigation in the Kimberleys.

Plan For Quality In Silage, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia Jan 1961

Plan For Quality In Silage, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

SILAGE making time is fast approaching in the South-West.

Last minute preparations before harvesting will help avoid delays at the time of making this valuable fodder, thereby reducing the amount of costly spoilage caused by hold-ups.

Its Shearing Time, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia Jan 1961

Its Shearing Time, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

SHEARING will soon be taking place on your property. For a smooth annual wool harvest, remember:—

Blasting. Part 1. Explosives And The Farmer, G A. Greaves Jan 1961

Blasting. Part 1. Explosives And The Farmer, G A. Greaves

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

ABOUT 3,000 tons of commercial blasting explosives of various types are used every year in Western Australia of which approximately two thirds is utilised by mining industries and the remainder goes mainly to quarrying and public works.

The farmer and orchardist actually use only very small amounts but nevertheless explosives are a very useful working tool for the primary producer.

Blasting. Part 2. Explosives On The Farm, G A. Greaves Jan 1961

Blasting. Part 2. Explosives On The Farm, G A. Greaves

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

EXPLOSIVES will function with maximum reliability and efficiency only when they are carefully stored under cool, dry conditions so as to avoid deterioration.

When preparing charges the user should follow a correct procedure and use the proper tools. Always treat explosives with respect and remember they are made to explode. When they hit they hit hard.

A Study Of The Flow Characteristics In The Core Region Of The Sandia Engineering Reactor, James A. Moeller Jun 1960

A Study Of The Flow Characteristics In The Core Region Of The Sandia Engineering Reactor, James A. Moeller

Chemical and Biological Engineering ETDs

The core region of a nuclear rector is an extremely compact area with a capability of providing a very high heat output. Regardless of the type of coolant used, the heat transfer characteristics of this region must be adequately designed to prevent any undesirable "hot-spots" from developing. The Sandia Engineering Reactor has one of the most compact cores of any in currently operating nuclear reactors. For this reason it is necessary to investigate fully the heat transfer characteristics of the core. The rate of heat transfer from the fuel elements to the coolant is directly dependent upon the temperature difference …

Australian Spark Arrester Tests : Spark Arrester For International B-250, W. F. Baillie, G. H. Vasey Jan 1960

Australian Spark Arrester Tests : Spark Arrester For International B-250, W. F. Baillie, G. H. Vasey

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

FORMAL tests on spark arresters are conducted by The Tractor Testing Committee at the Testing Station, Werribee, on behalf of those companies concerned with tractors, engines or spark arresters who wish to have these equipments tested.

Australian Spark Arrester Tests : Spark Arrester For Fordson Dexta, W. F. Baillie, G. H. Vasey Jan 1960

Australian Spark Arrester Tests : Spark Arrester For Fordson Dexta, W. F. Baillie, G. H.

The arrester is tested on the engine for which it is especially designed or if this is not convenient, it is tested on an engine having the characteristics and power for which the spark arrester is intended.

Test Of High-Speed Engine, William Frazier Owen Jan 1899

Test Of High-Speed Engine, William Frazier Owen

Student and Lippitt Prize Essays

Discusses the best ways in which a steam engine can function by using measurements from an actual steam engine. The essay ultimately determines that a steam engine is at its highest efficiency when carrying the largest load possible.
