UHMWPE has been used as a cushion in artificial hip joint for the last decades. The reliability of the components of a hip joint implant can be achieved by understanding their wear behavior. This study observed the tribological performance of the UHMWPE acetabular liner manufactured with a CNC milling machine on the femoral head made of SS 316L. Materials commonly used for tribo pairs in hip joint replacement. The wear tests were performed on a hip joint simulator in dry condition. Bacterial cellulose (BC) was synthesized from pineapple peel extract media with addition of fermentation agent bacteria Acetobacter xylinum. BC was disintegrated from the pellicle into bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) by using a high-pressure homogenizer (hph) machine, which has a three-dimensional woven nanofibrous network. The synthesis of composite films started when BNC, graphite nanoplatelets, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) were homogenized using an ultrasonic homogenizer then baked on a glass mold at a temperature of 80 degrees Celcius for 14h. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), an arc welding process, is widely used in applications. In practice, SMAW is widely applied to the welding process on hollow square pipe. Performance expected from this welding is the tensile strength of weld joint. A comparative study on the combustion characteristics of a single droplet fueled by DEX, crude jatropha oil (CJO), and a mixture of CJO with a magnetic liquid catalyst of rhodium trisulfate has been carried out under normal gravity conditions. The high viscosity of crude jatropha oil makes it difficult to burn under normal conditions (room temperature and atmospheric pressure), therefore the addition of a magnetic liquid catalyst rhodium trisulfate is needed to improve the properties of crude jatropha oil. The electronic structures of four precursors for organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites, namely, methylammonium chloride and iodide, as well as formamidinium bromide and iodide, are investigated by X-ray emission (XE) spectroscopy at the carbon and nitrogen K-edges. The XE spectra are analyzed based on density functional theory calculations. We simulate the XE spectra at the Kohn-Sham level for ground-state geometries and carry out detailed analyses of the molecular orbitals and the electronic density of states to give a thorough understanding of the spectra. This dissertation provides methodologies for the quantification of different forms of fatigue damage by considering the role of microstructure. The laws of thermodynamics in conjunction with Finite Element Method (FEM) are utilized to devise thermodynamically-base frameworks for the estimation of cyclic damage in polycrystalline metals. Accordingly, a microstructure-sensitive platform for fatigue life estimation is introduced. The proposed framework is assessed for 3D printed metallic alloys at room and elevated temperatures. In recent years, the nickel-based phosphide has drawn great attention because of its low intercalation/deintercalation platform and lower polarization compared to sulfides and oxides as anodes for next-generation high-energy lithium-ion batteries. Glyoxylic acid with the dual characteristics of acid and aldehyde is an important chemical raw material and organic synthesis intermediate, which is extensively used in the perfumery, pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. A family of symmetric quaternary ammonium hydroxides (QAHs) with different alkyl chain lengths was used as the additives in generating glyoxylic acid from oxalic acid electroreduction reaction (OAER). In this work adjustments in the rotogravure printing process are proposed to the varnish water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) aiming to obtain results smaller than 20g/m²/24h. One case study was used for the propositions for improvements, where focused on varnish application process in a gravure printer for an eight-printing unit cartonboard packaging, maximum printing speed of 175 m/min and a 285 g/m² weight cartonboard. A method of making passive microscopic Fabry-Pérot Interferometer (FPI) sensor includes forming a three-dimensional microscopic optical structure on a cleaved tip of an optical fiber that reflects a light signal back through the optical fiber. The reflected light is altered by refractive index changes in the three-dimensional structure that is subject to at least one of: (i) thermal radiation; and (ii) volatile organic compounds.

Heterogeneous Al–Si microstructure comprising of sub-micron-scale Al dendrites and nanoscale Al–Si fibrous eutectic was fabricated by processing as-cast Al-20wt.%Si alloy using laser rapid solidification. In situ tension tests explored high tensile strength ( ∼ 600 MPa) and ductility ( ∼ 10%) and high strain hardening rate ( ∼ 7 GPa). Microstructural characterization revealed the plastic co[1]deformation mechanisms between soft Al dendrites and hard nanoscale Al–Si eutectic. The progression of plasticity in nanoscale Al–Si eutectic with increasing applied strain is accommodated by dislocation plasticity in the nano-Al channels and cracking Si nanofibers. The goal of this research is the in-situ detection of flaw formation in metal parts made using the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing process. This is an important area of research, because, despite the considerable cost and time savings achieved, precision-driven industries, such as aerospace and biomedical, are reticent in using LPBF to make safety–critical parts due to tendency of the process to create flaws. Another emerging concern in LPBF, and additive manufacturing in general, is related to cyber security – malicious actors may tamper with the process or plant flaws inside a part to compromise its performance. …

The purpose of this study is the synthesis and study of modified sulfur concrete for use in industrial construction. To achieve this goal, sulfur concrete based on gossypol resin and pyrolysis distillate was modified and studied. The strength properties of sulfur-based concrete obtained from sulfur modified with gossypol resin and pyrolysis distillate were investigated. For the addition to sulfur concrete, industrial waste was used as a finely dispersed filler - fly ash from the Angren TPP and phosphogypsum generated at Ammophos-Maxam JSC. The intention of this article is to provide middle and high school Technology and Engineering Educators (T&EEs) with a more thorough understanding of an engineering approach to the teaching and learning of mechanics. During the teaching and learning of engineering content, in this case mechanics, the educator should attempt to align pedagogical content knowledge with engineering content knowledge and practices. T&EEs will also need to focus on terminology, structure, and applying theory to practical hands-on learning activities inside and outside of the classroom. The article presents the results of research on the justification of the parameters of the working bodies and operating modes of the mini crushers-shredders of coarse feed. On the basis of experimental research to study the effect of the rotor parameters Mini Crusher its qualitative performance indicators. According to the teachings found that rational parametres and operating modes-Crusher are: rotor length 350 mm; rotor diameter 550 mm; rotor speed 1290 min-1; the number of hammers 20 pcs; angle of rotation of the hammers 60.
