Washington State Patrol Trooper Cadets serve in a number of positions, a number of locations across the state and for varying lengths of time before they are selected to attend the academy. The purpose of the present research was to determine whether these factors were related to subsequent academy performance and job performance.
To that end, 255 cadets hired between 1979 and 1985 were studied. The results indicated that only pre-academy assignment duration was significantly correlated with academy completion and academy performance. Implications for further research and departmental policy are discussed.

Labour Management, D Blesing
Labour Management, D Blesing
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
labour management is more than ensuring the tractor has a driver when the soil is right. It is more than a simple excersise of matching man to machine, more than the simple arithmetic of hiring and firing to suit a short-term budget. Labour management needs to be wise, sensitive, prsctical and system-orientated.

The black professional in the community college is a catalog of contradictions. His or her condition can only be described as tragic; and his or her plight is a travesty on the philosophy of the two-year college. The preliminary findings of one study in progress note that nearly half (409 or 47 per cent) of the 865 two-year institutions included in the sample do not have a single black faculty member or administrator. Eighty-nine of the remaining 456 colleges have only one black staff member. Similarly, there are a number of community colleges located in areas heavily populated by blacks …
