The Efficacy Of Varying Small Group Workshops In The Composition Classroom, Daniel Strasberger

This I.R.B. approved study takes a look at the efficacy of small group workshops in the composition classroom and whether it is more beneficial for a student to remain in the same small groups between drafts, or whether it is better to change small groups and get a new set of eyes on a new draft. In my first-year English Composition course, ENG 103: Writing About Writing, I take a look at two different assignments, the Personal Narrative and the Research Paper, and how they changed over three drafts. Posing Purposeful Questions In A Mathematics Tutoring Setting, Sara Elaine Jones

One of the eight Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices published by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is the posing of purposeful questions. Many studies have been conducted that support the need, importance, and effectiveness of purposeful questioning in conceptual mathematics teaching. The purpose of this action research study was to gain insight into the successes and challenges of a tutor when implementing purposeful questions in a mathematics tutoring setting. The experiences of the tutor were analyzed through the collection of qualitative data using video and audio recordings, journal entries of the tutor, and an observational protocol. Data analysis …

Touchstones Of Popular Culture Among Contemporary College Students In The United States, Margaret Thoemke

This report is based on survey research. The survey was sent out to collect popular culture items from Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) students to see if there were popular culture items relevant enough to teach to English Learners (ELs) in order for them to be successful. The research showed that there are several genres of popular culture that should be taught to ELs for them to be successful academically and other to have successful interactions with their peers. This report leaves room for further research to be done in the subject as well.
