Social and emotional factors are critical for learning, being core aspects of the educational psychology curricula. Recently, neuroimaging has emerged as a powerful tool to comprehend the neurobiological factors underlying these factors. Yet, many educational psychologists have low familiarity with neuroscience research. The course EDPS 991: Social and Affective Neuroscience, from the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, emerges in this context, training educational psychology graduate students to consume, conduct, and disseminate findings about how the brain relates to socioemotional processes. This course portfolio documents the design, implementation, and reflection of NRES218 Introduction to Geospatial Technologies, an introductory undergraduate geographic information system (GIS) course. This course aims to integrate basic and applied sciences to help students develop spatial thinking and spatial analysis skills for proposing spatial science–oriented solutions. Instructional strategies emphasize experiential learning through structured laboratory exercises and outdoor field activities that connects real-world observation with GIS analysis. To assess instruction in an undergraduate communication course titled Communication, Advocacy, and Global Citizenship, this qualitative inquiry examined how undergraduate students at a Midwest university engaged with global citizenship as a communicative process by conducting a content analysis of student assignments, guided by three key research questions formulated from four course objectives. The assessment found that place-based learning on global issues enhanced students' understanding of the meaning of global citizenship in a globalized world. Based on a qualitative evaluation of their key assignments, students successfully articulated threads and connections between local community concerns and issues as globally situated communicative phenomena. …

The redesign primarily involved modifying assessment types and implementing clearer structure and grading expectations. The analysis compares student performance data from Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, disaggregated by demographic indicators including gender, race/ethnicity, parent education, neighborhood opportunity index, and rural/urban background. The purpose of this portfolio is to document learning outcomes after initiating three pedagogical changes in an Honors Sociology of Activism course taught at UNL in both the Fall of 2022 and Fall of 2023. The first change was to provide students with prior student work of an assignment to see if student performance on the assignment improved. Findings indicated that providing examples of previous student work did not raise grades on the overall assignment, but did result in stronger projects for that one aspect of the overall assignment.
