The purpose of this study was to examine how and why teachers engage in social media networks. Using a case study approach, data was gathered through semi-structured interviews, online observations, direct observations, artifacts, and documents to gain understanding to how and why teachers are using online networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter for professional learning. The underpinnings of constructivism and social constructivism theories served to provide a framework for understanding how teachers perceive their professional use of social media. In recent years the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Queer (Queer) community has experienced unprecedented acceptance in U.S. culture. Yet, education, historically slow to change (Fullan & Miles, 1992), continues in many states to promote a heteronormative culture that does not recognize nor promote equity for the queer community that exists within their schools (Barrett & Bound, 2015).

Place value understanding requires the same activity that students use when developing fractional and algebraic reasoning, making this understanding foundational to mathematics learning. However, many students engage successfully in mathematics classrooms without having a conceptual understanding of place value, preventing them from accessing mathematics that is more sophisticated later. The purpose of this exploratory study is to investigate how upper elementary students' unit coordination related to difficulties they experience when engaging in place value tasks. The overall purpose of this multifocused study was to explore how participation in genuine mentored scientific research experiences impacts in-service science teachers and the knowledge and skills needed for their own science teaching. The research experiences resulted from a partnership between the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Omaha Public School District. The purpose of this paper was to explore factors that influence teacher-child relationships in Head Start. Three Head Start teachers from three centers were recruited for this study. Interview and observation data were analyzed using a grounded theory approach by using the qualitative data analysis software NVivo. Two coders completed the coding process. Inter-coder reliability and other triangulation techniques were employed to ensure the credibility of this study. The analysis revealed factors that teachers perceived as beneficial or harmful to their relationships with children. Early childhood educators teach science to all students, including students with disabilities. Strategies for accommodating students with disabilities in science, including familiarity with equitable frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) are therefore a critical aspect of early childhood teacher candidates’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Such strategies are often emphasized in special education courses that are offered separately from science methods courses. This thesis investigated the use and acquisition of slang by ELL/EFL learners. Additionally, it sought to better understand if slang is being taught in ELL/EFL classrooms, what are effective methods to teach slang, and if learning environment is a factor in the acquisition. Thirty-five scientifically-based research studies were reviewed to help answer these questions. The investigation also found 4 of the 5 of the studies, examining if slang was being taught in ELL/EFL classrooms, were providing lessons in slang. The present study reviews the current literature related to culturally relevant nutrition education and its applicability to student learning within a secondary school setting. Specifically, this study examines how a youth participatory action research (YPAR) framework can be used to introduce students to the Diet Decolonization concept. In tandem, these ideals seek to improve student nutrition through evidence-based instruction, while also remaining sensitive to students’ diverse backgrounds. A tentative YPAR research design is offered, as well as recommendations for researchers to avoid bias and promote reflective thought prior to embarking on this type of research.

This literature review addresses many studies showcasing the benefits of academic perseverance, pointing to the need for all students to possess this trait. In understanding this, the research uncovers ways in which teachers are able to influence their students to overcome such challenges and persevere to complete academic activities.
