It is the purpose of this study (1) to investigate the interests of elementary school children of the intermediate grades in the social studies teaching materials; (2) to compare the interests of children in certain materials with the frequency of the materials' utilization as made by a group of intermediate grade teachers; and (3) to suggest a usage or grade placement of specific materials, if there is a decided indication, in accord with these findings.

The writer will discuss the educational opportunities in an area where bandits became famous, and where men fought men in an effort to exist. Through limited, education was carried on even in the midst of Indian massacres and the "Lincoln County Wars."

The purpose of this investigation is to determine with what degree of certainty the achievement of freshman in the college of Engineering at the University of New Mexico can be predicted from an analysis of data available during their first semester of enrollment in college. These data are (1) high-school achievement as indicated by teachers' marks over a four year period; (2) scores made on a battery of psychological and achievement tests administered at the time of enrollment in the University; and (3) college success attained in the first semester as indicated by semester marks.

It is proposed to try to trace the changes in aims, methods, and materials in the teaching of reading in these schools from their establishment in 1891 to the present time, 1947. The result should give the reader a story of the historical development of the teaching of reading in this particular school system.
