It was the purpose of this study to compare the extra-curricular programs in the junior high schools and middle schools of the state of Washington. The study will test the general hypothesis that there is currently no difference in the activity program 6f junior high schools and middle schools.

(1) Employers in farm related occupations are not assuming the responsibility of educating their employees, (2) the proportion of workers able to secure unskilled employment is decreasing, (3) the numbers of skilled, technical, clerical, managerial and sales jobs are increasing, {4) many rural youth will inevitably enter non-farming agricultural jobs and (5) although their farm backgrounds and experiences are valuable, they will require considerable education to qualify for and advance in satisfactory employment.

It is possible that interruptions cannot be completely eliminated, but from this study it is hoped that teachers and administrators will be able to evaluate their particular situations and minimize interruption problems. Other purposes of the study have been to determine the origin of interruptions and the relationship between disciplinary problems and classroom interruptions. Also included will be an evaluation of teaching duties that reduce teachers’ instructional time.

The aim of this study is to record the growth of the public schools of Durango, Colorado, from 1881 to 1944. It is a chronological history, with stress on the problems encountered with the establishing and developing of the school system. The biographies of the schools' administrators, found in the appendix, have a part in explaining the growth and achievements of the Durango Schools.

The purpose of this thesis is to point out how discipline is still a big problem for the inexperienced teacher, and that as a moral issue it is also a perplexing problem confronting the experienced teacher. In the first chapter it shows that a good understanding of psychology is necessary to approach the problem of discipline and that the teacher must have the qualities necessary to make her a leader and an inspiration to those in her charge.
