Background/Project Intent (Aim Statement): The objective of this quality improvement project is to decrease unplanned extubations in a Level IV NICU to an annual rate of2020.

Methods (include PDSA cycles): We hypothesized that increased awareness of historical ETT position would both prevent unnecessary ETT position adjustments and encourage prophylactic adjustments to adjust for significant weight gain or loss. Background/Project Intent (Aim Statement): The routine use of PCV-13 has resulted in a dramatic reduction in the incidence of pneumococcal infections among young children. However, serious pneumococcal infections caused by additional vaccine serotypes continue to occur in older children with high-risk conditions.1 As per the CDC, children with Diabetes should receive the PPSV-23 vaccine beginning at 2 years of age and at least 8 weeks after their last indicated dose of PCV-13.2 A review of division data from March 2016 to November 2018 revealed that only 2.6% of the eligible patient population with Diabetes have received the PPSV-23 vaccine. Problem Statement/Question: Victims of sexual assault are at increased risk for acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Human papillomavirus (HPV). These immunizations are not curative, but each are >95% effective at preventing infections by the included viruses. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children who are victims of sexual abuse/assault, receive the HPV and HBV immunizations at the time of their initial medical evaluation for sexual abuse/assault. Background: Stemming from the rapid need for COVID-19 testing when supplies were limited, we investigated alternate sample processing methods and sample types for SARS-CoV-2 detection. Respiratory specimen processing using an automated nucleic acid extraction system (easyMAG) provides highly quality of nucleic acid for amplification. Reagents and supplies for easyMAG were on short supply during the pandemic, so alternative sample processing methods were investigated. Due to COVID-19 quarantine and isolation, a home kit for specimen collection was desired, particularly one that was less invasive than nasopharyngeal swabs. We present a comprehensive analysis of all XMM-Newton spectra of OJ 287 spanning 15 years of X-ray spectroscopy of this bright blazar. We also report the latest results from our dedicated Swift UVOT and XRT monitoring of OJ 287 which started in 2015, along with all earlier public Swift data since 2005. During this time interval, OJ 287 was caught in extreme minima and outburst states. Its X-ray spectrum is highly variable and encompasses all states seen in blazars from very flat to exceptionally steep. Do changes in perspectives on teaching and learning that teachers experience in a professional development (PD) program persist over time? How might they evolve? In this article the author first summarizes the results of her original two-year qualitative study of Quebec CEGEP (college) teachers’ perspectives on teaching and learning within a PD program. She then describes the results of a follow-up qualitative study that she conducted with the same teachers five years later. Teacher interviews were coded using the constant comparative method (Maykut & Morehouse, 1994). Postsecondary outcomes remain difficult to attain despite their significance to learners with disabilities. This qualitative study investigated the impact of a hidden curriculum of time on the education of five undergraduate students with disabilities at a Carnegie Research One institution in the midwestern U.S. Participants in their quest for an education experienced a hidden curriculum of time in the form of physical impairments, educational costs of ill-health, and disability discrimination. The academic barriers participants encountered in reaching their educational goals suggest that addressing the hidden curriculum of time is essential for authentic inclusion and achievement of postsecondary education outcomes.

This study examines the science learning experiences across the lifespan of two groups of college students: adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a post-secondary inclusive program, and adults in a preservice secondary education teacher candidate program. Data, in the form of personal narrative science stories were collected using a paired-interview approach in which students from each group interviewed one another about their science learning across their lifespans, and recorded responses using an online form. Across the stories, several clear themes emerged. Similarities and differences were found across and within the groups and are shared in a narrative format. Trends …

Objective:

To evaluate the relationship between training in theatre improvisation and empathy, communication, and other professional skills.

Methods:

Undergraduate and graduate students who were participants of a 10-week summer undergraduate research program engaged in theatre improvisation techniques during a 3-hour workshop. In Study #1, a de-identified, self-report questionnaire (known as the Empathy Quotient) was administered prior to and following the workshop. Paired sample 2-tailed t-tests were performed to evaluate pre- and post-test scores. To identify additional benefits of engaging in theatre improvisation techniques, Study #2 was performed.
