Evaluating The Effects Of A Safe Space Training On Professional School Counselors And School Counseling Trainees, Rebekah Byrd

A Phenomenological Exploration Of School Counselors' Conceptualization And Implementation Of Multicultural Competence, Jasmine Knight

Counseling & Human Services Theses & Dissertations

School counselors need multicultural competence to implement comprehensive school counseling programs that promote the academic achievement of all students. Prior research demonstrates that school counselors have reported high levels of multicultural competence. However, there is no evidence that this self-perceived competence translates into practice. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of how practicing professional school counselors conceptualize multicultural competence and how they implement it into their work. To explore this topic, 12 practicing school counselors from a southeastern, urban school district participated in individual interviews, focus groups, and documents reviews. A research team analyzed …

Urban School Counselors' Perceptions Of Low-Income Families, Rebekah F. Cole

Counseling & Human Services Theses & Dissertations

There is a paucity of research on the topic of professional school counselors and their perceptions of families. The purpose of this phenomenological, qualitative study was to examine how urban professional school counselors perceive low-income families in their schools. The data was analyzed for themes and patterns, which were subjected to verification procedures. Three categories emerged from the data: urban school counselors' perceptions of the low-income families in their schools, effects of school counselors' perceptions on …

A Study Of The Expectations Of The Relevant Publics In Establishing A Guidance And Counseling Program For The Western Boone County School Corporation, Richard D. Huey

Graduate Thesis Collection

The Western Boone County Community School Corporation, Thorntown, Indiana, in opening a new high school is concerned with instituting a guidance and counseling service to meet the needs of its students effectively. In instituting these services, it seems imperative to survey the people served in the guidance and counseling program, namely, the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and Board of Education, to discover the relative importance these publics ascribe to the various activities a counselor should be involved with in the school. Its usefulness will depend upon the extent to which the program will use the survey's results in conjunction with …
