This study examined the impact of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with parents from different cultures all over the world. The literature review focused on ways negative and positive outcomes impacted parents and caregivers raising children with autism. The results showed that even though parents and caregivers experienced high stress levels and difficult times, they gained a better perspectives and coping skills when learning to accept the autism disability. Studying information from other cultures and autism provides greater understanding about how autism impacts the Hmong community, when parents are raising a child with autism.

ADHD affects not only the individual diagnosed with the disorder, but the individual’s family and surrounding community. The focus of this research was to gain an understanding of the way ADHD affects the individual and the various family members as well as to offer coping strategies and interventions. This effort to understand ADHD and its effects on the family enables educators to offer strategies to counteract negative impact on future family functioning and mental health.

The National Center of Educational Statistics (NCES, n.d.) reports the “2016–17 ACGR (adjusted cohort graduation rate) for all students was 84.6 percent.” Emotional/Behavioral Disorder (E/BD) students are the lowest to graduate that has a disability. As of right now, 40% of the students labeled with E/BD graduate from school which is far below the national average (University of New Hampshire, 2014). The focus of this research is to better understand causes of anxiety and depression among college students and how colleges can better assist these students. For various reasons, social anxiety is linked to excessive drinking and binge eating/exercising. A comorbid relationship exists between anxiety, depression and sleep disturbance. Sleep disturbance has multiple causes, but this research mostly focused on how technology interferes with sleep. Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is used to improve the overall mental, physical, emotional, and social functioning of a patient. Burnout is physical and emotional exhaustion caused by unmanaged and prolonged stress. The objective of this study was to determine how personality traits affect burnout likelihood among special education teachers. This involved investigating whether personality traits matched individuals’ choice of profession and their probability of experiencing burnout. Burned-out individuals often experience physical fatigue, long-term exhaustion, feelings of hopelessness, negative attitude towards others, and depersonalization. Symptoms of burnout come from work overload, stress, lack of social support, and variations of individual personality traits. Through research, it was identified that the four main types of movement integration are movement breaks, active lessons, physical activity and physical education. This paper identifies the risk factors shared by students who receive special education services under the category of emotional and behavioral disorders and gang affiliated youth. It also recognizes the role an educator can play in the identification of these risk factors and the prevention of gang involvement. The connection between both focus groups is profound and often a result of an environment not chosen by the student. Through educator awareness, early intervention and ongoing efforts, students with emotional and behavioral disorders may be dissuaded from affiliation changing not only their lives but potentially future lives.

Adverse childhood experiences have been found to increase the likelihood of immediate and long-term negative impacts on children. Adverse childhood experiences are complex traumatic events that can produce a powerful stress response in a child’s brain and body, which has the potential to influence their development. Children with adverse traumatic experiences are at an increased risk for altered neurodevelopment due to the influence of toxic stress. This empirical research literature review was conducted in order to better understand the effects that students' choice and preference have on increasing academic performance rates and decreasing disruptive behaviors within classroom and residential settings for students with disabilities. 30 peer reviewed publications were included in this review and were organized into sections pertaining to instructional/material choice, task-sequence choice, preference/task choice, and consequence (reward) choice. Results from this study provide evidence that implementing choice and preference into the classroom setting can decrease disruptive classroom behavior while simultaneously increasing student work performance.

This literature review examines studies that investigated and evaluated the relationship between physical activity and academic achievement in students with disabilities. Research was found and reviewed that used school-aged participants, exercise or physically movement interventions, and standardized tests to measure academic achievement. Several brain regions are involved in both cognitive and motor tasks, which has sparked interest in this area of study. The studies reviewed showed that there is a positive relationship between being more physically active and having improved cognitive abilities.
