School districts use an array of methods to group students for their academic needs. In years past, many schools have tracked their students. This practice involves placing students in different classes according to their ability levels and past academic record. However, in recent years, some schools have decided to do away with this homogenous grouping and instead "detrack" their schools, grouping students heterogeneously. Proponents of tracking argue that homogenous grouping is advantageous to higher-ability learners. Teachers sometimes find it difficult to teach students with the broad range or achievement levels typically found in a heterogeneous environment. It is also argued …

Making The Connection Between Teaching And Learning, Pierre Babineau

In this paper I describe as well as analyze how I learn compared to how I teach. It provides a history of my language learning of Japanese as well as a description of my studies about teaching in the SMAT program at SIT. An analysis of how my language learning and English teaching changed is included, along with how I was able to make connections between the two. The paper concludes with a list of things I have learned from such a study.

The author defines culturally responsive leadership as "essentially a process" by which communities create systems that support democratic education. The author explores relevant education scholarship and literary texts to better define "democratic freedom," and the essay examines issues related to democratic education and the role of educators and community members in creating democratic schools. The author argues that humanistic, child-centered, democratic schools are not only essential for the development of the sense of self that enables one to experience true freedom, but democratic schools are also necessary to the goal of changing the conditions that create inequities. Very little attention has been given to a discussion of interracial cooperatives on college and university campuses. In fact, the literature discusses interracial partnerships and organizations but does not ameliorate the value of these partnerships on college and university campuses. This paper will investigate interracial partnerships (e.g., Congress on Racial Equality - CORE, Student Community Interracial Committee - SCIC, and Student Community Human Relations Council - SCHRC) that were formed on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus during the years of 1940-1960 in an effort to fight extant racial discrimination. Concerns about the increased use and abuse of information technology have evolved into more formalized evaluations of computer ethics in many organizations. This trend extends to most of the universities where they provide different modules related to professional computer ethics. Although these formalized evaluations have become more common, very little is known about the effects of collaborative learning on students’ moral reasoning and how to assess it.
