Objectives Of Animal Use In Biology Courses, William V. Mayer
Objectives Of Animal Use In Biology Courses, William V. Mayer
Education Collection
To confine discussion of educational use of animals to experimentation is to focus on only part of the animal use problem. To focus on use of animals in the classroom solely is to negate the value of field and community resource areas such as zoos, animal parks, nature trails, etc. The primary objective in dealing with living organisms is to inculcate a respect for all life. Objectives that focus on use of living animals for experimental purposes can, at best, be secondary and may in many cases be contrived. An understanding of animal life requirements and animal contributions is an …
The Challenge And Motivation Of Students Through Live Animal Projects, Thurman S. Grafton
The Challenge And Motivation Of Students Through Live Animal Projects, Thurman S. Grafton
Education Collection
The subject of use of live animals by secondary schools either in classroom work or science fairs is a very controversial and often emotional issue. The author emphasizes the dedication to humane treatment of animals while at the same time explaining the process by which rules have been formulated to provide for the appropriate use of live animals. The difference between permission and mandate is clarified for the purpose of explaining the need to provide for the more effective challenge and motivation of the high achiever while still allowing for more modest undertakings by the average student The perils of …
Science Youth Activities And Animal Experimentation, E. G. Sherburne Jr.
Science Youth Activities And Animal Experimentation, E. G. Sherburne Jr.
Education Collection
Science youth activities (extracurricular science activities) involve millions of young people at the elementary and secondary school level. Such activities are popular with young people and with teachers because they offer values different from those provided by classroom work and the required laboratory. National science youth activity programs include science fairs and the International Science and Engineering Fair, the Science Talent Search, and a number of other programs. For activities involving research, animals have been increasingly used because of the increased sophistication of the students doing the work. While some projects using vertebrates may be done poorly, it is suggested …
Evidence From Science And Tradition Supporting A Two-Model (Evolution/Creation) Approach To Teaching The Origin Of Life, Robert P. Gardner
Evidence From Science And Tradition Supporting A Two-Model (Evolution/Creation) Approach To Teaching The Origin Of Life, Robert P. Gardner
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
This study gathered material presenting flood traditions in agreement with data concerning models of origins, selected material for supplementing classroom materials, and determined public opinion as how the subject of origins should be taught in public schools. Surveys recommend a two-model (evolution/creation) approach be taught within scientific limitations in public schools. Materials are available to promote this approach legally, fairly, and scientifically. Because of the evolution model's inadequacies, a reinterpretation of equivalent data allowing for catastrophic universal flood concepts is needed. Part of this reinterpretation may be supplied by the canopy model, as well as the many worldwide flood traditions. …

Report On Survey Of Diploma Of Teaching Graduates In Science From The N.C.A.E. Who Are In Their First Year Of Teaching (1978), Research Committee, Nedlands College Of Advanced Education
Research outputs pre 2011
This survey of graduates with the Diploma of Teaching (Science) was conducted with the intention of providing Science Department Staff of the N.C.A.E. with information which would allow changes to be made that would more accurately meet the needs of their students.
Preliminary discussions with the College science staff have already initiated several changes as suggested by the interviewees. Some recommended changes have already taken place during the graduates' first year of teaching (such as a change in the timing of the Assistant Teaching Programme)...

Cauchy Extensions Of Integrals, Donald Wayne Carlton
Cauchy Extensions Of Integrals, Donald Wayne Carlton
All Master's Theses
This paper presents some ideas on a different approach to the teaching of integral calculus. The method presented here, though simple in nature, requires little alteration when new topics such as probability and series are developed.
A Survey Of Aerospace Education In Grades Nine Through Twelve In The State Of Washington, Judith Ann Isaac
A Survey Of Aerospace Education In Grades Nine Through Twelve In The State Of Washington, Judith Ann Isaac
All Master's Theses
The purposes of this study were: (1) to survey the incidence of aerospace education in grades nine through twelve of Washington State schools, (2) to discover what courses and units include such education in the curriculum, (3) to determine who the teachers are, and the nature of their preparation, (4) to gain a description of what kind of education is attempted under this heading, and (5) to discover what the opportunities are for expanded aerospace education within the schools surveyed.
An Elementary Science Course Of Study Developed For Use In The Stockton Unified School District, David H. Smith
An Elementary Science Course Of Study Developed For Use In The Stockton Unified School District, David H. Smith
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Elementary science has made rapid strides in the last four or five years. In our elementary schools we have the laymen and scientists of tomorrow. The masses should have a speaking acquaintance with science and know the value to society through its modern inventions and discoveries. Knowledge of facts discovered by scientists give rise to conceptions that vitalize thinking in many fields and cause the redirection of human activities. Scientific conceptions such as time, space, change, variety, adaptation, and interrelationships have exerted profound influence upon thinking in wide areas of human affairs. These concepts can never be mastered, but they …
