It Doesn’T Feel Like A Job To Learn: Hispanic Preservice Teachers’ Perceptions Of Dance-Themed Mathematics Education, William Robertson

A series of dance activities were introduced to preservice teachers (n  = 76) to help them understand how mathematics concepts could be associated with dance performance and choreography processes. A total of 468 pieces of qualitative data were collected, including 147 online discussion entries with 248 follow-up 10 comments, and 73 individual reflection essays. The main themes for the various benefits that emerged across the preservice teachers’  reflections were: (1) improving students’  dispositions toward mathematics and creating an enjoyable learning environment for reducing mathematics anxiety; (2) allowing students to develop their creativity and allowing teachers to meet different students’  needs; …

Processing Motion: Using Code To Teach Newtonian Physics, M. Ryan Massey

Prior to instruction, students often possess a common-sense view of motion, which is inconsistent with Newtonian physics. Effective physics lessons therefore involve conceptual change. To provide a theoretical explanation for concepts and how they change, the triangulation model brings together key attributes of prototypes, exemplars, theories, Bayesian learning, ontological categories, and the causal model theory. The triangulation model provides a theoretical rationale for why coding is a viable method for physics instruction. As an experiment, thirty-two adolescent students participated in summer coding academies to learn how to design Newtonian simulations. Non-science, first year regional undergraduate students from rural Utah communities participated in an online introductory geology course and were asked to forecast the rise of CO₂ in the Earth’s atmosphere. The majority of students predicted catastrophic rise to 5,000-ppm sometime over the next 3,100 years, resulting in an atmosphere nearly uninhabitable to human life. However, the level of concern the students exhibited in their answers was not directly proportional with their timing in their forecasted rise of CO₂. This study showcases the importance of presenting students with actual data and using data to develop student forecasted models. …

The Numeracy Screener was developed by Dr. Nadia Nosworthy and Dr. Daniel Ansari at the Numerical Cognition Laboratory at Western University (Canada). This test is a brief (2 - 4minutes) screening tool of basic number and numerosity processing skills for children ages 5to 9 years. The goal of the present study was to establish a French version of the Numeracy Screener (NS-f), for which the translation is valid. For that purpose, a method of back-translation was used. The results showed a good correspondence (near 80 % adequation)between the original version and both retranslated versions. It thus suggests that the French …

Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman konsep IPA siswa SMP melalui pembelajaran problem solving. Teknik pemilihan sampel dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII berjumlah 66 orang. Data penelitian diperoleh menggunakan instrumen tes. Teknik analisis data dengan cara melihat perkembangan n-gain. Hasil penelitian diperoleh rata-rata pemahaman konsep siswa sebelum pembelajaran adalah 52,28 tergolong kategori kurang baik. Skor setelah pembelajaran adalah 77,40 tergolong kategori baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan prestasi belajar kimia peserta didik pada pembelajaran hidrokarbon dengan penerapan model pembelajaran Teams Games Tournament (TGT) menggunakan Chempuzzle. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang terdiri atas dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri atas tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Implementasi Model Pembelajaran Ipa Berbasis Kearifan Lokal Untuk Meningkatkan Kreativitas Dan Hasil Belajar Siswa, Aji Pamungkas, Bambang Subali, Suharto Linuwih

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh implementasi model pembelajaran IPA berbasis kearifan lokal terhadap kreativitas dan hasil belajar siswa, serta mengetahui besar peningkatannya. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan quasi eksperimen. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VII F sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VII B sebagai kelas kontrol di SMP Negeri 22 Semarang. Pemilihan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Aspek kreativitas yang diteliti terdiri atas kelancaran, keaslian, kesadaran dan ingatan yang diukur dengan lembar observasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji independent sample t-test didapatkan signifikansi data hasil belajar siswa sebesar 0,003 < 0,05 dan signifikansi data hasil observasi kreativitas sebesar 0,003 < 0,05. Artinya ada perbedaan kreativitas dan hasil belajar siswa yang signifikan antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Besar peningkatan hasil belajar siswa pada kelas kontrol sebesar 0,56 kategori sedang, sedangkan pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,68 kategori sedang. Besar peningkatan kreativitas siswa pada kelas kontrol sebesar 0,55 kategori sedang, sedangkan pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,71 kategori tinggi. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa dengan model pembelajaran IPA berbasis kearifan lokal dapat meningkatkan kreativitas dan hasil belajar siswa. Pada penelitian ini nilai kearifan lokal yang diangkat yaitu Kalender Pranata Mangsa yang sudah tertanam di masyarakat Jawa.
