The primary objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of programmed instructional material as complementary aids in the teaching of a Mathematical topic, specifically Reflection, to Form Two pupils in a rural secondary school. This is an experimental study. The design of the study is the pre-test-post-test type. An experimental group and a control group were involved in this study. The experimental group used the programmed text, Learn It Yourself Reflection (LIY Reflection) which comprises 4 Units while the control group followed the normal classroom instruction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of language in mathematics achievement of Form Four students, and their difficulties in solving mathematics word problems in Bahasa Malaysia version. 40 Form Four students from one of the Chinese Independent High School in Kuala Lumpur, who speak Bahasa Malaysia as a second language were asked to solve 10 mathematics word problems in Bahasa Malaysia version in 40 minutes. Understanding chemistry requires the ability to think at three different levels: submicrochemistry, macrochemistry, and representational chemistry. Students often have difficulty making connections among these three areas due to the abstract nature of many chemistry concepts. This is a Graduate Review of the actual work being implemented by a group of six math teachers at Lakeview Elementary. The initiative began because of an on-going problem of students receiving low-test scores in mathematics. Writing across the curriculum is an important trend in language programs. As children engage in the language processes within the functions of the content areas, they not only create meaning but extend their thinking-language abilities and their knowledge of science.

The writer as a third grade teacher used her students' learning logs in science as one guide to their writing instruction. This qualitative means gave much insight into students' application of writing tasks.
