Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Ruckelshaus has announced that a prototype engine developed by EPA and the U.S. Army has met EPA's 1976 emission standards in initial tests. EPA, the Army, Ford Motor Co. and Texaco, Inc. have been working on the project for the past two years as part of President Nixon's program to develop a virtually pollution free automobile engine.

A Study Of Physics, Chemistry And Advanced Science Enrollments In Iowa's Area Ten With Reference To Enrollment Patterns In The State Of Iowa, Richard E. Mcqueen

This study was initiated under the assumption that advanced science courses could be shown to detract from physics enrollments, thus establishing one possible cause of the continuously declining enrollments in physics in Iowa's Area Ten and nationwide. Initial work failing to support this relationship, a study of chemistry enrollments was added, chemistry enrollments being felt to be indicative of emphasis on science, with or without an advanced course. Information on enrollments in Area Ten was taken directly from teachers' responses to a questionnaire on such enrollments for 1969-70, received from all 43 public and seven parochial, private or special schools …

I would like to react to the present mood of our culture by paraphrasing a statement from Lewis Mumford's great book, The Myth of the Machine. "What is needed in education today is a multi-medium for teaching so varied, so many sided, so flexible, so responsive to human need, that it can serve every human purpose .... " And then he says, "The only true multi-medium remains the human organism itself."

The State is divided into 15 geographical areas for the improvement of education in Iowa schools. Each area has a local board of education and the authority to levy taxes. The total K-12 enrollment ranges from a low of 16,876 in Area XIV to a high of 136,719 in Area XI. In general, these 15 areas are of approximately the same geographical size.
