The goal of this lesson is to present the basic scientific knowledge about stem cells, the promise of stem cell research to medicine, and the ethical considerations and arguments involved. One of the challenges of discussing stem cell research is that the field is constantly evolving and the most current information changes almost daily. Few science texts contain stem cell information, and those that do are generally written at a reading level above that of a typical middle grade student. Beyond 'Hot Lips' And 'Big Nurse': Creative Writing And Nursing, Sandra Young

This essay describes a special topics creative writing course designed for nursing students, and argues that creative writing strategies work to improve nurses' compositional skills. Also discussed are other potential benefits from creatively writing patients' lives, notably, the blending of arts and sciences, and the ways in which medical schools are encouraging their students to study the humanities, especially literature and creative writing. The essay includes student creative writing samples.

Details of the grading system used for the period of the study; Analysis of the independent variables that correlated significantly with the final course grades of the students; Relation between the amount of previous study of mathematics and science in both high school and college and the final course grades of the students.

Scientific Approach To 4-H Food Projects, Grace Brill

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

The scientific approach to 4-H food projects resulted from the stress on science from federal extension personnel of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and from surveys and consultations with representatives of the National Science Foundation. The result has been six bulletins prepared by the extension nutritionists of the University of Minnesota for the approximately 24,000 4-H members, aged 9 to 19, enrolled in 4-H food projects in Minnesota. The scientific approach has, consequently, added the question of "why" to the traditional 4-H approach of "how-to-do-it."
