On 25 April 1975, at the twenty-second annual meeting of SWAN (i.e. Southwestern Association of Naturalists), at the University of Oklahoma Biological Station, President Keith A. Arnold appointed one of us (Choate) to investigate current regulations pertaining to collection and transport of scientific specimens in the region of representation (including Mexico) or SWAN. This charge involves both Federal and State laws, several of which are undergoing change and many of which doubtlessly are not familiar to the membership of SWAN. Physical Science Modules for Bioscience Students

What happens in the lung is that air meets blood. Figure 1 shows the lung's architecture. Focus your attention upon the smallest scale structures which are the termini of the air passages. These are the alveolar air sacs or, simply, alveoli. The inhalation/exhalation actions of the lung, alternately, flood these alveoli with atmospheric air and expel its oxygen-poor/carbon dioxide-rich replacement. Figure (2a) depicts, in a somewhat simplified manner, these alveoli with their appended venous blood suppliers, the pulmonary arteries. Safe And Legal Aspects For Washington Teachers With Respect To Selected Elementary Science Programs, Wendy Jean Stoddard

All Master's Theses

This thesis presents varieties of information regarding teaching science in elementary school classrooms in the State of Washington. Included are Washington State Laws, National Fire Codes, general rules, and an annotated list of materials and equipment. This list was developed from items suggested in six elementary science programs. Each item was judged for safety either by scientists or by judgements found in the literature.

Recommendations included use of this material by schools, colleges, and textbook companies. Additional research was urged.

A Comparative Investigation Of Understanding Of Ecological Content Between Eighth And Tenth Grade Pupils, David Lee Herbenson

All Master's Theses

The study had two major purposes. One purpose was to determine if Covington Junior High School eighth grade pupils understood the basic ecological ideas and facts presented to them in a teacher-designed one semester course entitled Environmental Concepts Orientation (ECO). The second purpose was to find out the degree of competence attained by the eighth grade pupils as compared to tenth grade pupils taking a one year ecologically oriented course in the nationally developed Green Version BSCS biology series at Camas, Washington.

Elementary Human Genetics, A Help To Teachers, Elizabeth W. Reed

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

ABSTRACT - Two pilot courses in human genetics, which were sponsored by the Minnesota Human Genetics League, are described. One was given in Minneapolis and one in Osseo, Minn. Each course consisted of ten two-hour class sessions, carried professional credits and was geared to the level of elementary and high school teachers, principals and special education personnel who made up the class membership.
