This study investigated the design cognition and performance results of secondary and post-secondary engineering students while engaged in an engineering design task. Relationships between prototype performance and design cognition were highlighted to investigate potential links between cognitive processes and success on engineering design problems. Concurrent think-aloud protocols were collected from eight secondary and 12 post-secondary engineering students working individually to design, make, and evaluate a solution prototype to an engineering design task. The collected protocols were segmented and coded using a pre-established coding scheme. The results were then analyzed to compare the two participant groups and determine the relationships between …

This dissertation examined the effects of the inferencing reading strategy using a emotionally charged instruction for students from countries who do not speak English as their first language. A quasi-experimental study applying quantitative research methods to collect data from the two sections of Level four Reading classes during a ten week period in the fall of 2017. There was one session of instructor coaching which lasted for four hours, a shared google document and several hours of telephone conversations. This thesis assesses the academic progress of transfer students at Eastern Washington University. Over %60 of college graduates attend multiple institutions (United States Department of Education, 2006) and more than %70 of Washington students attend a technical or community college before entering a 4-year institution. (HEBC, 2011) This makes transfer students an extremely valuable and important population to universities across the United States. Homelessness with youth aging out the child welfare system has proportionally risen over the years. It is important that policy makers, professionals, and practitioners in the field of foster care understand the conditions youth find themselves in at the time of leaving placement. The purpose of this study was to describe problems that exist for youth aging out of foster care. Post placement outcomes have not generated results that suggest youth are thriving as they return to communities. The low test scores on third graders' Illinois State Assessment Test (ISAT) is a concern in the Allgood Elementary School community. Thirty percent of third graders are retained because they do not meet the standard on the ISAT. A technology-assisted reading program, Study Island, was implemented to increase reading proficiency. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was an improvement in standardized test performance after the implementation of Study Island for the academic school years 2009-2012. Mentoring, coaching, and advising are often confused as similar interactions with developmental intent, yet their scope, purpose, and utility in leadership development are distinct. The purpose of this chapter is to provide clarity as to what constitutes mentoring, coaching, and advising for leadership development and to compare and contrast each relationship type.

Developing the “whole” student often requires identifying unique needs and helping students recognize when they need mentoring, coaching, and/or advising. The problem addressed in the study was the lack of evidence on the efficacy of the single-gender educational model as compared to the coeducational model in increasing reading achievement for middle school boys in the local school district. Leaders in the district implemented the single-gender model to address the problem of an ongoing reading achievement gap among middle school boys and girls. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษากระบวนการถ่ายทอดการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกของครูพินิจ ฉายสุวรรณ ศิลปินแห่งชาติ 2) สร้างคู่มือการถ่ายทอดการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกตามแนวทางของครูพินิจ ฉายสุวรรณ ศิลปินแห่งชาติ วิธีการดำเนินการวิจัยใช้ระเบียบวิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยการศึกษาเอกสาร และการสัมภาษณ์ (interview) วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยวิธีการตีความข้อมูล (interpretation) สร้างข้อสรุปและนำเสนอเป็นความเรียง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. ครูพินิจ ฉายสุวรรณ เป็นศิลปินผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านดนตรีปี่พาทย์ทั้งภาคทฤษฎี ภาคปฏิบัติ และการถ่ายทอด โดยเฉพาะเครื่องมือระนาดเอก ได้รับการยกย่องว่ามีความเป็นเลิศ ครูพินิจได้รับการถ่ายทอดการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกจากครูสอน วงฆ้อง ครูพริ้ง ดนตรีรส และครูเชื้อ ดนตรีรส โดยครูทั้งสามท่านนี้เป็นลูกศิษย์โดยตรงของพระยาเสนาะดุริยางค์ ในช่วงหลังขณะที่ครูพินิจรับราชการประจำอยู่ที่วงดนตรีไทยกรุงเทพมหานคร ท่านได้รับการถ่ายทอดบทเพลงเดี่ยวต่าง ๆ จากครูบุญยงค์ เกตุคง รวมทั้งได้ต่อเพลงเดี่ยวเพิ่มเติมกับครูท่านอื่น ๆ ด้วย เช่น ครูบุญช่วย ชิตท้วม ครูสนิท ลัดดาอ่อน เป็นต้น ลูกศิษย์ที่ได้รับการถ่ายทอดการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกจากครูพินิจต้องมีพื้นฐานการบรรเลงระนาดเอกมาก่อนในระดับหนึ่ง ในการถ่ายทอดบทเพลง ครูพินิจเป็นผู้พิจารณาว่าผู้เรียนแต่ละคนเหมาะสมกับบทเพลงใด สำหรับหลักการถ่ายทอดทักษะการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกของครูพินิจ ฉายสุวรรณ มี 3 ประการ ได้แก่ 1) สอนตามสติปัญญาและความสามารถ 2) เน้นเรื่องรสมือของผู้เรียนที่ควรเป็นไปตามธรรมชาติของแต่ละคน 3) เน้นการบรรเลงที่ถูกต้องชัดเจนไพเราะและได้อรรถรสของบทเพลง 2. คู่มือการถ่ายทอดการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกของครูพินิจ ฉายสุวรรณ ศิลปินแห่งชาติ ประกอบด้วย คำชี้แจงในคู่มือ เนื้อหาสาระเกี่ยวกับเนื้อหาที่เป็นความรู้ความเข้าใจในการนำไปถ่ายทอดสำหรับผู้สอน และการนำไปฝึกทักษะการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาดเอกสำหรับผู้เรียนตามแนวทางของครูพินิจ ฉายสุวรรณ ศิลปินแห่งชาติ ขั้นตอนการถ่ายทอดและการฝึกทักษะการบรรเลงเดี่ยวระนาด การวัดและประเมินผล และแหล่งอ้างอิง

Tips offered center on classroom discourse, curriculum choices, and potential assignments. In this article, we present tips for creating a thriving undergraduate and graduate communication research lab. Based on our experiences developing and co-directing the Communication and Social Robotics Labs (CSRLs), we offer 10 best practices for acquiring resources and recognition, building a strong lab community, and attaining faculty and student goals for scholarship and beyond. Our overarching approach is framed by Dewey’s (1916) pragmatist educational metaphysic, which stresses student- and subject-centered learning, enlarging experiences, and the co-construction of meaning and knowledge. In this study we sought to review financial literacy education in the state of Ohio, particularly for students in Akron City School District. We did this by hosting a day-long financial literacy seminar for high school students in partnership with community financial professionals. I used a pre and post survey to measure the change in student comfortability with financial topics from the beginning of the day to the end. I found that with exposure students become more comfortable with critical financial topics.

Gender diverse individuals experience stigma, discrimination, and transprejudice regularly, in response to daily interactions with society. These negative experiences lead to the development of physical, mental, and emotional instability.
