This paper presents the process of conducting an educational needs assessment for Indian children living in the Yakima School District, Yakima, Washington. This study was designed to determine the educational needs of Indian children by involving the parents in the determination of those needs. A Parent Committee was formed to establish suspected needs and to evaluate data submitted from the school district, juvenile authorities, and interviews with members of the Indian community. The committee then made recommendations for future programs.

This study investigated the effects of an exemplary program on the academic achievement of grade three and four students in the Mt. Adams School District. Students in grades three and four were paired on a basis of sex, ethnic origin, IQ, age, and socio-economic status. Achievement was determined with the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. Students in the selected grades in 1971 were compared with students in the same grades in 1973. The test scores of the groups and sub-groups were given a test with the level of significance of .05. Forty-two of forty-four t tests showed the program had …

The Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions (BCIM) was created in 1874 as the Office of the Commissioner for Catholic Indian Missions to protect, promote, and administer the Native American mission interests of the Catholic Church in the United States. Records in this group are organized by record group and then state or territory and year. Collection organization varies very little throughout the collection, however, prior to 1921, general correspondence was organized by location.
