Cultivating Culturally Responsive Special Educators: A Qualitative Study Of Self-Efficacy Journeys Across Preservice Preparation And Inservice Professional Development, Ashley R. Norton
Theses and Dissertations
In an increasingly diverse society, educators must be prepared to effectively instruct students from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and ability backgrounds. Teacher self-efficacy in culturally responsive practices (CRP) is critical to achieving equitable educational outcomes, particularly in special education, where students often experience multiple forms of marginalization. Despite the importance of culturally responsive teaching, limited research has examined how special educators develop culturally responsive teaching self-efficacy (CRTSE) over the course of their professional careers, particularly in urban school districts serving culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) populations.
This qualitative study explored the self-efficacy journeys of special educators and their …

This study aimed to 1) identify the attitudes and abilities of Cooperative Extension staff regarding the delivery of virtual educational programming based on their characteristics and 2) identify professional development priorities to effectively deliver programming virtually. We disseminated an adapted Faculty Readiness to Teach Online questionnaire to Cooperative Extension staff via Qualtrics. Mean and standard deviation were calculated from complete surveys (n = 67) for each virtual programming competency in the self-reported attitude and ability sections, categorized by position type, years of teaching, and program area. We conducted a MANCOVA to …

What Do Extension And Public Health Educators Need To Address Substance Misuse?, Lisa Washburn, Karen Franck
Journal of Extension
Limited organizational capacity has hindered Extension’s ability to address substance misuse in communities. To inform capacity-building efforts, we obtained Extension educator and health educator feedback on opportunities, challenges and resource needs using the Delphi technique. Opportunities included collaboration and partnerships with local entities. Stigma, inadequate resources, and limited knowledge and skills of educators were challenges. Top resource needs were updated youth curricula, funding, and clear guidance on what educators can do and what should be referred externally. Findings provide insights to educator perceptions and suggest additional training and resources needed to implement evidence-based approaches to address substance misuse.

Developing A Comprehensive Leadership Program For Extension County Directors, Brandi C. Berven, Allisen Penn, Janet C. Cluck, Shirley W. Hastings
Journal of Extension
This article provides an overview of the development and components of LEAD95, UT Extension’s comprehensive leadership program for county-level leaders. The program was designed using results from a Delphi study, which identified critical skills and resources for new county directors to be successful. The program consists of face-to-face workshops, mentoring, a multi-rater assessment, online learning opportunities, and an online resource toolkit. Expected outcomes include increased competency, increased job satisfaction, and more consistent leadership and direction among county-level leaders in the UT Extension system.

Southeastern Council on Family Relations Conference [2018-2020]
Extension agents with Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) programmatic responsibilities come from a variety of backgrounds but are expected to implement educational programs across FCS knowledge areas. This study examined [state] University Extension personnel’s perceived importance of and perceived ability related to human development competencies. There was a significant difference between how specialists (state-level) and agents (county-level) perceived the importance of three of the five human development concepts. Most agents’ perceived their ability across the human development competencies to be average or just above average. Using the perceived importance and perceived ability data from the agents, next steps include piloting …

This paper shares the experience of a group of academic developers’ engagement in collaboratively working towards the completion of an online open-access professional development (PD) course designed to support higher education teachers to engage with a new professional development framework. Committee members of the Educational Developers in Ireland Network set out to complete the course as a demonstration of their commitment to their own PD and to experience the process with a view to becoming facilitators of the course. An auto-ethnographic approach was used to capture this experience, and findings demonstrate an inspiring alternative to PD that supports academic developers …
