A Uniquely Jesuit Approach To Engagement Through Social Media, Karl F. Kozlowski, Shawn M. O'Rourke

Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal

Social media is a relevant and powerful instrument of communication in higher education, especially in the college age population. The use of social media in and out of the classroom on the college campus allows faculty to meet students where they are. Content shared by faculty on social media is a means to continue to educate our students and alumni outside of the classroom and build relationships regardless of geographic boundaries. Through the use of social media platforms, we can also continue to relay and demonstrate our Jesuit ideals. This engagement can help build a relationship between faculty and students …

Press Releases

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will present George Brant’s “Into the Breeches!” Thursday-Monday, Sept. 23-27, in Verser Theatre. Performances will be held Thursday-Saturday and Monday at 7:30 p.m., with a matinée performance on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Set in 1942, “Into the Breeches!” tells the story of what happens when the crew and leading actors of the Oberon Play House go to fight in World War II. Instead of shutting down the playhouse for the season, the director’s wife plans a production of Shakespeare’s “Henriad”—a combination of “Henry IV” and “Henry V”—with an all-female cast.

Articles

The awarding of grades or marks to student work is traditionally considered a fundamental feature of assessment. Grades became more widely established in the twentieth century becoming ubiquitous across most educational institutions. There is increasing evidence to suggest that grades are not effective tools for promoting or measuring learning. One alternative approach for promoting and measuring learning is "Ungrading," in which no letter grades or marks are given to students. Instead, they are replaced with formative feedback provided through strategies such as individual feedback, peer review and self-assessment. An Ungrading approach promises increased learner motivation, a reduction in stress, and …

Pivoting To Remote Learning: Our Practices For Supporting Non-Traditional International Students And Part-Time Contract Instructors, Marcia Mckenzie, Mariya Solovyova

Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse International Students in Open or Online Learning Environments: A Research Symposium

Extended Education at the University of Manitoba offers 12-month, full-time, face-to-face intensive programming to internationally educated professionals. This programming consists of two credentials and academic language support completed over 10 months, followed by an industry experience. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Extended Education pivoted quickly to develop a strategy to move courses offered to international students from a traditional face-to-face situation to a remote-learning delivery format. In order to ensure a successful transition, the developed strategy involved providing administrative and academic support to international students and part-time contract instructors.
