To Lecture Or Not To Lecture: Engaged Teaching And Learning, Wayne Roosa, Jay Rasmussen
Faculty Development Publications
This video and companion paper discusses the lecture as a teaching tool and features Professor Wayne Roosa (Art History) as he reflects on reasons for using lectures, the thoughts and processes involved in lecture design, and techniques that have proven successful. In addition to viewing a lecture in a 300 level course, hear Wayne’s thoughts about dealing with “too much material and too little time,” facilitating learning apart from the lecture, and preventing student boredom and information overload. Factors Influencing Soft Skills Development : A Study Of Students In Ucsi University., Christine Wong Siew Kuan
Student Works (2010-2019)
Employers today are generally not satisfied with the quality of fresh graduates that graduate from university. Universities are no longer a vehicle for students to acquire academic knowledge but one to help develop life skills as well. So what are the graduate employability skills that the industry is talking about? This study was conducted on the students of UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur to find out the types of soft skills that are lacking amongst students and to find out what can contribute to the learning and development of such skills. The soft skills highlighted to be studied include communication …

Overcoming The Model Minority Myth: Experiences Of Filipino American Graduate Students, Kevin L. Nadal, Stephanie T. Pituc, Marc P. Johnston, Theresa Esparrago
Publications and Research
Filipino Americans are one of the largest immigrant groups in the United States and the second largest Asian American/Pacific Islander ethnic group. However, there is little research focusing on the unique experiences of this group, particularly in higher education. This paper presents a qualitative exploration of the experiences of Filipino American graduate students utilizing consensual qualitative research methodology. Results were categorized into domains and themes, with an example of a domain being "deficiencies and lack of resources" and an example of a theme being "Filipino Americans as different from Asian Americans." Implications for higher education administrators and researchers are discussed.
