Pre-Service Teachers’ Perceptions Of Creativity In Education, Merve Topak-Jamsran
Pre-Service Teachers’ Perceptions Of Creativity In Education, Merve Topak-Jamsran
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the relationship between pre-service teachers’ self-reported creativity and their appreciation for students’ creative characteristics. The researcher replicated Kettler et al.'s (2018) "Teacher Perceptions of Creativity in the Classroom" study of in-service teachers. Specifically, the relationship among pre-service teachers’ creative self-efficacy, self-reported personal creativity, perceived importance of promoting creativity, and their preference for student characteristics in the classroom was investigated. Data were gathered using a web-based questionnaire e-mailed to pre-service teachers in educational preparation programs in a southern U.S. state. The study sample were 92 pre-service teachers who had completed at least one practicum or who were currently …
Examining School Belonging And Academic Resilience Among Biliterate And Multilingual High School Students, Keila Moreno Navarrete
Examining School Belonging And Academic Resilience Among Biliterate And Multilingual High School Students, Keila Moreno Navarrete
Theses and Dissertations
An increasing number of students in the United States identify as Hispanic or Latino/a. These students enter American classrooms from varying backgrounds with diverse talents. Many of these students are proficient in at least two languages. Unfortunately, Hispanic students are underrepresented in gifted and talented programs, nationwide. The present study contributes to the limited empirical research on talented, biliterate, Hispanic, first-generation, and second-generation immigrant students by investigating strength-based factors (i.e., academic resilience, biliteracy, and school belonging) using both quantitative and qualitative evidence. Quantitative data from 30 bilingual Hispanic high school students were collected through an online survey with items measuring …

Gender Differences In Stem Sense Of Belonging For Academically Advanced Middle School Students, Monica C. Meadows
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated academically advanced middle school students’ sense of belonging as it pertains to the STEM disciplines. The study examined the relationship between STEM sense of belonging, STEM class/peer climate, amount of STEM exposure, and the strength of identification with STEM. A quantitative research design was used to examine factors that influence STEM sense of belonging. The researcher utilized a survey research design with data collection via a web survey. This was accomplished through the use of a descriptive rating, Likert-type sense of belonging survey, modified from the Sense of Belonging to Math Scale (PSOBS) created by Rattan, Good, …
Attitudes Of Advanced Placement Teachers Toward Debate: Meeting The 21st Century Critical-Thinking Needs Of Gifted Secondary Students, Allison Mcmath Mcmath
Attitudes Of Advanced Placement Teachers Toward Debate: Meeting The 21st Century Critical-Thinking Needs Of Gifted Secondary Students, Allison Mcmath Mcmath
Theses and Dissertations
Young Americans must be equipped, both individually and collectively, with the 21st century skills, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, in order to thrive in the global landscape which lies before them. Little political or economic capital is devoted to maximizing academic opportunities for gifted secondary learners. Limiting opportunities for children and youth with the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment, deprives them of their right to an appropriate education and wastes a national resource. Recognizing that limited capital often circumscribes schools in their ability to provide special programs, the researcher proffers debate, a course within the …
Factors Affecting The Job Satisfaction Of Teachers Of The Gifted: A Mixed Methods Study, Mary Kathryn Kathryn Stein
Factors Affecting The Job Satisfaction Of Teachers Of The Gifted: A Mixed Methods Study, Mary Kathryn Kathryn Stein
Theses and Dissertations
This mixed-methods research study examined the job satisfaction of teachers of the gifted in a southern state to determine if the factors of perceived organizational support, teachers' sense of autonomy, and teachers' self-efficacy significantly predict job satisfaction for teachers of the gifted. The teachers are from a state that mandates services to identified gifted students, partially funds the services, requires teachers who provide gifted services to have graduate courses in gifted education, and evaluates services to students with gifts and talents. The open-ended responses of the teachers responding to the survey who have high job satisfaction and those identifying as …

The Academic And Social Implications Of Virtual Learning Environments For Gifted High School Students With An Autism Spectrum Disorder, Lorna Elizabeth Bryant
The Academic And Social Implications Of Virtual Learning Environments For Gifted High School Students With An Autism Spectrum Disorder, Lorna Elizabeth Bryant
Theses and Dissertations
In public schools today, students who are identified as individuals with gifts and talents are generally confronted with education that is not fitted to their learning needs and self-regulatory potentials (Colangelo, Assouline, & Gross, 2004). The mismatch between needs and services is particularly true of those students who, in addition to their giftedness, are faced with the challenges of a developmental disability such as autism or Asperger's Syndrome. In the face of such challenges to appropriate services for twice-exceptional students, a new approach to public education is attracting an increasing amount of attention. The term twice-exceptional was coined by James …
The Effects Of Peer Coaching On The Evaluation Knowledge, Skills, And Concerns Of Gifted Program Administrators, Alicia Ervin Cotabish
The Effects Of Peer Coaching On The Evaluation Knowledge, Skills, And Concerns Of Gifted Program Administrators, Alicia Ervin Cotabish
Theses and Dissertations
Improving practice in the evaluation of gifted programs is often hampered by insufficient training among gifted program administrators, a lack of release time for carrying out evaluations, and a failure to devote sufficient resources to evaluation efforts. To increase knowledge and skills in program evaluation, a peer coaching intervention provided one-on-one professional development to gifted program administrators. This study examined the effects of peer coaching on program administrators' evaluation knowledge and skills, with a particular focus on increased access for culturally diverse and low-income gifted learners to program services. Gifted program administrators' concerns about implementing more rigorous program evaluations were …
