The study aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on elementary teachers' perceptions of their working conditions and immediate professional plans in North Carolina. It compared 2018, 2020, and 2024 data to identify differences in perceptions of the pandemic. Using a nonexperimental quantitative design, the study analyzed archived data from the North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions Survey (NCTWCS) obtained from the North Carolina Education Research Data Center (NCERDC). This mixed methods sequential explanatory study examined how elementary teachers’ perceptions influenced the fidelity and effectiveness of behavioral interventions in K–5 public schools. Grounded in Bandura’s (1986) Social Cognitive Theory and Fixsen et al.’s (2019) Implementation Science Framework, the study explored the relationship between teacher confidence, professional development, and outcomes related to student achievement. Quantitative data showed reductions in behavior incidents, in-school suspensions (ISS), and out-of-school suspensions (OSS) from fall to spring, while qualitative data from surveys and interviews emphasized the need for sustained support, differentiated intervention plans, and a strong school-wide culture. This qualitative case study explored the influence of ecological systems on internal stakeholders (teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators) within one dual language strand within a school’s Chinese immersion program in North Carolina. As a sixth-grade teacher at a suburban elementary school in the Pacific Northwest, I observed that many students entered my classroom with significant gaps in foundational math skills. In Fall 2025, my classroom-based assessments revealed that a majority of my students were performing below grade level, particularly in numbers and operations in base ten- place value in decimals, multi-digit calculations and operations, and algebraic thinking- translating words to expressions, finding patterns, and solving multi-step problems. This action-research study examined whether embedded picture-mnemonic letter cards improved kindergarten students’ letter-sound accuracy, fluency, and enjoyment compared with plain alphabet cards. Twelve students in a private early-childhood school participated in a six-week intervention embedded within daily phonics instruction. Students were randomly assigned to either a control group using plain lowercase letter cards or an experimental group using embedded picture-mnemonic cards. Data were collected through baseline and post-intervention Letter-Sound Accuracy (LSA) and Letter-Sound Fluency (LSF) probes, weekly enjoyment ratings, and observational field notes. The purpose of the project is to examine how structured communication check-ins may improve the self-direction and task completion of third, fourth, and fifth grade elementary students with IEPs. The intervention will consist of short, intentional check-ins at the beginning and end of each instructional session. During the opening check-in, one of the intervention students (3B, 4B, and 5B) will set a personal academic or behavioral goal for that session. Reviewing ten peer-reviewed studies, it compares Montessori classrooms with traditional early childhood programs and finds consistent evidence that Montessori practices, such as child-led activities, structured autonomy, self-correcting materials, and supportive teacher guidance, significantly improve children’s attention, impulse control, emotional regulation, and independent decision-making. Studies that center Black male teachers often lack nuance and tend to look at them as a monolithic group. This dissertation uses Quare theory (Johnson, 2001), African American Male Theory (AAMT) (Bush & Bush, 2013), along with self-study methodology represented through fictionalized ethno-dramatic scenes to examine the teaching practices of a queer Black male teacher in a rural context and the impact he has on the achievement of his rural Black students. Background and Purpose. This study sought to investigate child engagement from the children's perspective, aiming to understand better what they perceive as factors that facilitate or constrain their academic engagement in classrooms. By centering children's voices, this research challenges traditional views of students as passive recipients of education, instead recognizing them as active participants with valuable insights into their learning experiences. This work builds on the frameworks proposed by Shirley and Hargreaves (2021) and Lawson and Lawson (2013) that utilize socio-ecological theory to better understand those factors impacting children’s learning experiences.
