Parents are critical socialization agents for their children, especially in middle childhood. It is through parent-child interactions that beliefs, values, and attitudes can be particularly influential for a child’s identity and social development. In particular, understanding how parents socialize their children has important implications for their own child’s racial identity development and critical consciousness – and later civic engagement and social behaviors. Our view of CSLP emphasizes integrating the arts into literacy instruction to leverage students' cultural assets, stimulating their cognitive processes and recognizing literacy's interdisciplinary role in learning. This article investigates the roles of the terms agreement and disagreement in teachers’ talk in Norwegian Grades 1-4 classrooms. Through an exploration of what teachers said and did when they used these terms, five different themes were identified in the teachers’ talk. The teachers tended to use the terms in relation to the process of discussion, the outcome of these discussions, and nuancing the idea of the nature of this outcome; as a function in conversation; and how agreement and disagreement are valuable in different ways. This study used a qualitative participatory approach with a narrative design to research the students’ engagement in a book club using critical texts. Beliefs about the malleability of intellectual ability-mindsets-shape achievement. Recent evidence suggests that even young children hold such mindsets; yet, no reliable and valid instruments exist for measuring individual differences in young children's mindsets. Given the potential relevance of mindsets to children's achievement-related behavior and learning, we developed and tested the psychometric properties of the Growth Mindset Scale for Children (GM-C). This study examined the effect of small class size intervention on student outcomes using reading achievement scores as measured by the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills (CTBS), a standardized, norm-referenced test, while controlling for independent variables inclusive of students' gender, race, socioeconomic status (SES), and environment. This study included students who participated in a randomized, long-term study, the Tennessee Student Teacher Achievement Ratio (STAR) experiment from 1985 through 1989. Schnitzer and His Family Foundations and analyze his contemporary post-modern artistic contributions alongside contemporary traditional Native American bead weaving and historical Native American bead weaving. We consider how to make visual patterns from aspects of our cultural identity and how how to make a bead weaving art project in the elementary art classroom. This lesson plan pairs Georgia Visual Art standards with third grade Social Studies standards.

Non-specific lower back pain is a common condition characterized by strain, muscle spasms, or weakness of the paraspinal muscles, particularly the multifidus muscle, which affects adjacent musculature such as the gluteus, hamstrings, and quadriceps. In the face of enrolment decline, an emphasis on student credit hours, and a history of siloed tunnel vision, action seems impossible in a climate that resists the core mission of higher education. In this article, authors—faculty from two teacher preparation departments—share their journey that started as state-mandated program revision to a campus-wide civic agenda. The use of decodable texts can support beginning readers in building a strong foundation for reading, especially when reinforcing skills taught in phonemic awareness and phonics programs. Decodable texts have a home within the science of reading, which can be used to motivate and inspire children. The purpose of this essay is to share my experiences implementing decodable texts in small groups to support beginning readers. I will discuss teacher use and implementation of decodable texts to support student application of grapheme-phoneme relationships and the strategies used to improve not only student learning, but their love for reading.
