The Living Lab: Instructional Design Interventions To Improve Communication And Equity In Federal Housing Programs, Joana I. Camp
The Living Lab: Instructional Design Interventions To Improve Communication And Equity In Federal Housing Programs, Joana I. Camp
Knowledge and Creativity Expo
The Living Lab is an independent applied research project informed by my 25 years of lived experience as a Section 8 voucher holder, examining how instructional design strategies can improve administrative workflows, communication, and equitable access within the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Drawing on sustained participation, the research identifies two primary systemic barriers: the federally mandated 15-day inspection period and incomplete Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA) packets. To address these issues, the project developed the RFTA Roadmap—a zero-cost, clarity-driven communication tool that embeds sequential instructions directly within procedural workflows, mitigating the Split-Attention Effect and cognitive “Bandwidth Tax” associated with standard …

Navigating Ownership & Access In Collaborative Groups: Understanding Copyright Law, Administrative Controls And Common Project Risks, Karley Downham
Navigating Ownership & Access In Collaborative Groups: Understanding Copyright Law, Administrative Controls And Common Project Risks, Karley Downham
SACAD: Scholarly Activities
Collaborative groups, such as those in academic settings, often operate under a misconception that administrative control over shared digital files (e.g., Google Workspace permissions) equates to legal copyright ownership of creative content. This confusion frequently leads to internal disputes, contributor alienation, and project delays that can harm outcomes and participant well-being. The goal is to clearly define copyright law from file access administrative controls by providing an evidence-based framework to prevent and resolve ownership conflicts and foster healthier collaboration.
The poster will present core legal principles, emphasizing that U.S. copyright ownership defaults to creators and is not transferred by administrative …

Book Review: Teaching With Ai: A Practical Guide To A New Era Of Human Learning, 2nd Edition By José Antonio Bowen & C. Edward Watson, Jordan O'Connell
Essays in Education
This book review examines Bowen and Watson’s second edition of Teaching with AI, which argues that higher education must treat AI as an artificial general disruptor of cognitive labor. Moving past handwringing and handwaving, the authors press faculty toward design decisions that make judgment, standards, and integrity visible again. Their warnings about detection are timely, but the book is ultimately forward-looking: AI can widen feedback, clarify expectations, and make redesign work practical at scale. Although the book avoids discipline-specific exemplars, it makes a clear case that the issues facing colleges and universities lie deeper than AI—and that AI can …

The Illusion Of Causality In Llms: A Developmentally Grounded Analysis Of Semantic Scaffolding And Benchmark–Capability Mismatches, Daisuke Akiba
The Illusion Of Causality In Llms: A Developmentally Grounded Analysis Of Semantic Scaffolding And Benchmark–Capability Mismatches, Daisuke Akiba
Publications and Research
Recent benchmarks increasingly report that large language models (LLMs) exhibit human-like causal reasoning abilities, including counterfactual inference and intervention planning. However, many such evaluations rely on domains that are heavily represented in training data and embed strong semantic cues, raising the possibility that apparent causal competence may reflect semantic pattern recombination rather than structure-sensitive causal reasoning. Drawing on human developmental theories of causal induction, this perspective argues that genuine causal understanding requires robustness to novelty and reliance on conditional structure rather than semantic familiarity. To illustrate the testability of this claim, the paper includes a pilot demonstration using synthetic causal …
