Increasing Principal Candidates’ Self-Efficacy Through Virtual Coaching, Travis E. Lewis, Karen D. Jones

Skill development in instructional coaching and feedback is difficult to adequately simulate within a principal preparation program. As a result, many new administrators enter the field with little to no experience in instructional coaching and, therefore, feel tremendous uncertainty and low self-confidence. This study explored the effect a virtual coaching experience has on self-efficacy for principal preparation program students. Preservice teacher candidates were matched with principal candidates to provide virtual instructional coaching to the benefit of all involved. The findings of this study indicate that practice through virtual coaching is positively related to increased self-efficacy in principal candidates.

IELTS 360 helps increase fluency, accessibility, and familiarity, to the speaking portion of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. By integrating 360-degree videos, virtual reality, and the YouTube platform, the content created targets English Language Learners prepare for the interview by placing the viewer/learner in the virtual environment (VE). Through my experiences outside of class in ESL settings, my students mentioned speaking to be the hardest language skill to conquer and so this project aims to help anyone viewing the content practice as much speaking as possible given the time constraints.

Purpose. The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify and describe the impact of instructional technology on lesson effectiveness and obstacles to incorporating instructional technology into lesson design as perceived by elementary school teachers.

Methodology. A qualitative ethnographic method was used in this study. Triangulation was accomplished through the collection and analysis of direct interviews, and artifacts shared by educators and strengthened by information-rich data provided in direct observations.

Findings: Major finding of the study showed high student engagement with the use of technology, and unavailability of the internet/Chromebooks as a big obstacle to technology integration.

In this study, the researcher discusses the use of a digital portfolio application, Seesaw, that is used in her first-grade classroom. During her clinical teaching year, her cooperating teacher was using Seesaw as a digital portfolio. She formed a question that focused on student and teacher perceptions. When building her study, she began by conducting a survey to understand initial feelings towards Seesaw. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of one-to-one technology use on students and faculty compared to traditional use of technology. The researcher employed a quantitative study that utilized a quasi-experimental design to investigate the technology effect using survey instruments. Participants included in this study were from schools located in Northwest Arkansas. There were approximately 2,640 students across seven middle schools as well as 63 staff members in the same schools. This project investigated whether adding subtitles to educational videos increases learning among middle school students. A convenience sample (N=387) of Technology and Engineering middle school students were separated into two groups during the third term of both the 2018 and 2019 school years, where one group of students viewed videos with subtitles and the other group viewed the identical videos without subtitles. After viewing the videos, students immediately took a multiple-choice test. The test scores were used to analyze the variance between the two different groups.
