The diversity of higher education institutions is changing, and more post-traditional students, including those associated with the military, are engaging in higher education. Almost every post-secondary institution in the United States has military students. In 2020, $11.5 billion was spent on over 875,000 eligible military students. Military students often prefer online courses at community colleges due to flexibility around their military career, open-access, and affordability.

Yet, few studies examine active military servicemembers alone and, when research is performed, a lack of thorough data collection exists. Therefore, this study focused on active military students in online education in California Community Colleges. …

Academic dishonesty occurs in higher education. Students who choose to cheat will find a way no matter the assessment type, learning environment modality, and deterrents. Academic integrity in online assessments has been prevalent even before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, due to the recent increase in online learning modalities, cheating is at the top of faculty concerns, and many instructors believe that online assessments open the door for cheating.

I conducted a root causal analysis using an improvement science framework to identify why students cheat in higher education. This study identified two major themes of reasons students participate in academic dishonesty. …

Notetaking is critical to students’ academic success. Students have many notetaking software programs to available for support. This study aimed to describe college students’ adoption and use of a comprehensive notetaking software (Sonocent). Freshman students (n=138) were offered a free Sonocent license with free training on its use during first semester science coursework. The study found a small adoption rate among participants and an overall low level of satisfaction with the software. Students who reported difficulty with notetaking at the start of the semester were more likely to use Sonocent with the audio recording feature deemed most useful.

Campus farms are increasingly becoming sites for sustainability and environmental education toward this end. This paper describes the design and outcomes of a farm-situated place-based experiential learning (PBEL) intervention in two undergraduate biology courses and one environmental studies course over two academic years. Students often struggle with ways to turn their experiences into meaningful stories. Photovoice is a way to use photography for positive social change and to help people tell their stories. I used Photovoice to help students process the uncertainty of moving back home when the university switched to remote in Spring 2020. Since I teach public speaking, I used those stories to teach public speaking skills as well.

Post-secondary peer education provides both academic support and employment opportunities for students. Traditionally, this valuable resource has been held in person at specified tutoring centers on college campuses. Recently, in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for online academic support options is higher than ever. This study surveyed both tutors and students who taught or attended tutoring through both in-person and online formats throughout their time at South Dakota State University (SDSU). Community college students are often characterized by their need to balance school amidst conflicting life needs, such as employment and family. This study is primarily aimed to investigate beliefs and attitudes of Indonesian EFL preservice teachers toward the use of mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets for learning and instructional practice in Indonesia. Furthermore, this phenomenological study attempted to reveal the factors affecting these two constructs from 20 Indonesian EFL preservice teachers through semi-structured interviews.
