To teach composition in this era means to engage students with technology; it is all but an unspoken requirement at the majority of universities. This dissertation theorizes, however, that the imbricated use of technology in first-year writing (FYW) classrooms places rural students at an inherent disadvantage, with issues of inadequate technological proficiency and inconsistent access causing a substantial learning disparity between this student population and their urban peers. Investigating The Impact Of Gender Composition On Team Performance: A Cross-Cultural Study Of Student Teams, Maria Randazzo-Davis, Christopher Nelson Ph.D.

International Journal for Business Education

This study investigated if the gender composition of teams impacts performance by examining the relationship between student-level variables of cultural intelligence and global knowledge and team-level variables of team performance. Data were collected from 1,922 students across 40 countries participating in 446 teams. Results of independent samples t-tests and multiple regression analyses at the student and team levels showed that gender and international status were related to global knowledge and cultural intelligence, whereas gender, global knowledge, and cultural intelligence were all significantly related to team performance. The coefficient of variation was found to be low, suggesting that other variables might …

The development of taxonomies which articulate learning outcomes are necessary to disconnect the silos among educators, employers and learners (Mathews, 2019; Uranis et al.) What are taxonomies? A taxonomy is a systematic classification of objects. Why do they matter? Without systematic classification and coding it is difficult to compare or combine objects. How are they relevant to teaching and learning? In the years after the Second World War, educational psychologists saw the progress made in the biological sciences with taxonomies and started to apply them in education. Among the first to appear in the mid-50s was the work of Bloom.

In the context of an educational technology course, teacher candidates completed Marczewski’s User Types Hexad Test, a questionnaire based on a typology for classifying both intrinsic and extrinsic motivational tendencies. The test results showed teacher candidates' motivational tendencies, through indicating their resonance with six different User Types, including Socializers, Free Spirits, Achievers, Philanthropists, Players, and Disruptors. Notetaking is an often overlooked but important factor of student learning. Studies that have focused on notetaking in the past have highlighted performance over perceptions. This study investigated the importance of fifth-grade students’ perceptions of online and paper notetaking. The researcher collected data through pre- and post-surveys, interviews, observation field notes, student artifacts, and a data tracker. The researcher analyzed the data collected using the constant comparative method and a primary and secondary coding scheme. The current study examined the relationship of classroom openness to online civic engagement with digital literacy as mediating variable. The study was conducted among a national sample of 1,005 grades 9-10 students in the Philippines. At the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM), recordings of all live lectures are available to students via the Echo360 Lecture Capture system. To improve the accessibility, usability, and usefulness of the recordings, beginning in the 2022-2023 Academic Year, we incorporated automated speech recognition (ASR) to create a transcript and closed-captioning for lecture recordings in the Synergistic Guided Learning (SGL) curriculum. For quality control, work-study medical students and volunteers reviewed and edited the transcripts and released updated versions for student use. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have a low employment rate. This is caused by a lack of support from employment resources and the negative stigma associated with common characteristics associated with ASD. With limited career-building activities and events, it is difficult for individuals with ASD to identify their skills, strengths, and career opportunities. Parental support is crucial when seeking employment opportunities for their children. Through the use of play, children with ASD engaged and explored their skills with science, technology, engineering, arts, and math-centered activities. This paper highlights the events and shows the proposed redesign for an additional workshop.

This report provides an overview of the project completed with OER grant funds received from USF’s Gleeson Library in 2021. Our OER project was to create a textbook that would reduce costs for students in USF’s current Core A2 classes, including RHET 120, 250, 295 and HONC 132. It was also intended to provide a “multimodal” (writing, speaking, digital) approach to composition to reflect best practices and pedagogical innovations in the teaching of composition and communication.
