Cognitive epistemic systems are reasoning structures that promote an individual's categorization of group members through processes known as cognitive epistemic essentialist entitativity (EEE). The propensity of these processes to become stagnant is known to lead to stereotyping and prejudiced behaviors when individuals are presented with ambiguous information about outgroup members. Educational materials about the contributions, cultural patterns, and social customs of ethnic and cultural groups can reduce stereotyping and prejudiced behaviors. Sixty percent of youth indicate exposure to violence. Such exposure is a noted risk factor for youths' well-being, including cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding whether exposure to violence predicts impaired academic performance. The purpose of this quantitative study was to test a model with cognitive, behavioral, and emotional sequelae of exposure as mediators of the relationship between exposure to violence and academic performance among adolescents who are at risk for exposure and attend inner-city high schools. Women throughout the world have found emancipation through education. Yet, there has been no research on the role that education plays in dairy farm women's primary, on-farm identity development and how farm women's identities develop. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine dairy farm women's perceptions of previous learning (education) and its influence on their primary, on-farm identity development. Identifying depressive symptoms in community-dwelling elders has been problematic, due to a lack of resources and training for health clinicians. Previous researchers have indicated that older adults who engage in physical activities can prevent, or mitigate depression, but no model has included this variable in conjunction with factors such as lifestyle or sociodemographic characteristics. In this study, a predictive design was used with a regression analysis. The goal of this research was to discover and compare themes of the top blended learning (BL) articles from seven different regions of the world. Top cited articles in BL from these regions show strong similarities in research processes, practice, terminology, and focus. Small differences are apparent among the regions and top articles in general, but similar patterns demonstrate that themes might promote collaboration and exchange between regions and that the most cited articles from around the world could fit well within the topical, research, and publication practices of the field. A substantial amount of evidence exists suggesting that including tests as part of learning events can promote greater long-term retention (known as the “testing effect”). In the current study, the testing effect was analyzed in the context of mandatory federal legal training. The classic information processing perspective provided a theoretical backdrop for the experimental design. Participants (N = 383) received specialized training content through one of three modalities (text-, audio-, or video-based). School drug use has been attributed to the annual suspension of thousands of secondary adolescents, subsequently contributing to poor academics, low graduation rates, and continued school drug use. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the experiences of former adolescents who engaged in school drug use. Social learning theory suggests that behaviors observed from within the environment may later be modeled. Using Bandura's social learning theory, 10 participants, 18 years old and older responded to open-ended questions about how they processed school drug use. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) receive the highest proportion of transfer students (TS) who encounter unique challenges to academic/social integration such as difficult socioeconomic backgrounds, insufficient support of their families, and limited access to student counseling and career guidance services on campus. According to the Colorado Judicial Branch, 78 problem-solving courts operate in the 20 judicial districts in Colorado. The Summit County and Eagle County drug court programs are located in Colorado's Fifth Judicial District and have not been previously studied. Evaluating treatment programs for effectiveness contributes to social change because it ensures individuals in need of treatment are receiving the proper services. The Eagle County drug court program had 117 participants and the Summit County drug court program had 33 participants. Whereas relevance-writing interventions have shown effects on students’ achievement, a persistent finding is that interventions benefit students with low, but not high, outcome expectancies—a phenomenon that Schwartz et al. (2016) termed the half empty question. In the current mixed-methods study, we investigated the role of undergraduate students’ patterns of engagement in a relevance-writing intervention and their relations to biology course achievement. Ninety-six students who were administered four relevance writing assignments were found to manifest two patterns: Students who completed at least 50% of the intervention in a timely manner outperformed those who completed less-then-50% or completed it late, regardless of …

What Do Teachers Think About Educational Psychology? Developing And Validating The Educational Psychology Practitioner Scale, Lauren D. Hargrave

Theses and Dissertations--Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Educational Psychology Practitioner Scale (EPPS), which was designed to (a) assess the practices, training, and skills of educational psychologists and (b) determine their utility among K-12 schools classroom teachers. Study participants included 161 K-12 teachers across 21 states within the United States. An exploratory factor analysis yielded a 25-item, unidimensional scale. Correlating the EPPS with the Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale (Tschannen-Moran & Woolfolk Hoy, 2001) and the Job Satisfaction Scale (Warner, 1973) provided discriminant validity for the scale. Study limitations and future research directions are discussed.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความแตกต่างของผลการฝึกอนุมานสาเหตุที่ความพยายามที่มีต่อการผัดวันประกันพรุ่งของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ของกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ได้รับโปรแกรมการฝึกอนุมานสาเหตุที่ความพยายามระหว่างระยะก่อนการทดลอง ระยะหลังการทดลอง และระยะติดตามผล กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 โรงเรียนมัธยมวัดนายโรง กรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 49 คน แบ่งออกเป็นกลุ่มทดลอง จำนวน 24 คน และกลุ่มควบคุม จำนวน 25 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยประกอบไปด้วย 1. แบบวัดการผัดวันประกันพรุ่งในการเรียนและ 2. โปรแกรมการฝึกการอนุมานสาเหตุที่ความพยายาม โปรแกรมนี้ประกอบด้วยกิจกรรมการฝึก จำนวน 10 ครั้ง ครั้งละ 50 นาที การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้การทดสอบความแปรปรวนทางเดียวแบบวัดซ้ำ (One-Way Repeated measure ANOVA) ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ 1) กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ได้รับการฝึกการอนุมานสาเหตุที่ความพยายามมีค่าเฉลี่ยจากแบบวัดการผัดวันประกันพรุ่งในการเรียนในระยะหลังการทดลองและติดตามผลไม่แตกต่างจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ไม่ได้รับการฝึกอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ 2) ในระยะก่อนการทดลอง หลังการทดลอง และติดตามผล ค่าเฉลี่ยจากแบบวัดการผัดวันประกันพรุ่งในการเรียนของกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ได้รับการฝึกการอนุมานสาเหตุที่ความพยายามไม่แตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลจากการใช้โปรแกรมฝึกการกำกับอารมณ์ที่มีต่อความสามารถในการฟื้นพลังของนักเรียนระดับอาชีวศึกษา ตัวอย่างในการวิจัย คือ นักเรียนที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่ในระดับประกาศนียบัตรวิชาชีพชั้นปีที่ 2 ภาคเรียนที่ 1 ปีการศึกษา 2561 วิทยาลัยอาชีวศึกษาสุโขทัย จังหวัดสุโขทัย จำนวน 62 คน เครื่องมือในการวิจัย คือ โปรแกรมฝึกการกำกับอารมณ์ และแบบวัดความสามารถในการฟื้นพลัง วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยค่าเฉลี่ย (Mean) ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (Standard deviation) และทำการเปรียบเทียบความแตกต่างของค่าเฉลี่ยระหว่างช่วงเวลาของการวัดประเมินความสามารถในการฟื้นพลัง โดยใช้การวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนทางเดียวแบบวัดซ้ำ (one-way repeated measures ANOVA) และสถิติทดสอบทีแบบอิสระ (Independent sample t - test) ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ 1) ภายหลังการทดลองและในระยะติดตามผลกลุ่มทดลองมีค่าเฉลี่ยคะแนนความสามารถในการฟื้นพลังสูงกว่าก่อนการทดลองอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ .05 และ 2) ภายหลังการทดลองและในระยะติดตามผลกลุ่มทดลองมีค่าเฉลี่ยคะแนนความสามารถในการฟื้นพลังสูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ .05

Social skills are important for building and maintaining relationships, effective communication, and providing appropriate responses within social contexts. Deficits in social skills are often exhibited in individuals with comorbid Down syndrome (DS) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Peer-delivered interventions and other behavioral techniques for teaching specific social skills show effectiveness; however, the paucity of intervention research including individuals with DS-ASD has resulted in little guidance for how best to teach social skills and ensure generalization and maintenance. Learning environment research has typically focused on factors other than the physical environment (e.g., student/teacher relationships, organizational structure). This study investigated the relationship between the physical classroom environment and entry-level undergraduate statistics students’ (N = 844) academic beliefs and performance. Students were taught in either a technology-enhanced active learning classroom or a traditional lecture hall. This study investigated how undergraduate students in an entry level statistics course a) perceived the importance of the physical learning environment, b) conveyed expectations for and experiences of active engagement within that environment, and c) self-reported their personal capability judgments. Historically, Appalachia has been stereotyped as being a culture bred in poverty and ignorance. Much research has shown that stereotyping reveals a pattern of behavioral change and an impact on psychological well-being for the stereotyped (e.g., Pinel, 1999; Woodcock, Jernandez, Estrada, & Schultz, 2012), and has largely been centered on race and gender (e.g., Byrnes, 2008; Tuckman & Monetti, 2011). Those with a college education are more likely to participate effectively in the governance of the nation, contribute their time and resources to the community, depend less on government services, and engage in fewer crimes (Institute for Higher Education Policy, 1998).
