A Comparative Evaluation Of Two Delivery Systems Of Mainstreaming In-Service Training For Regular Teachers Focusing On Child Change Variables, Glenn Earl Andis

This study was designed to evaluate mainstreaming in-service training practices for regular teachers which result in successful child change. The research design implemented was a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group design with a pretest and a posttest. There were three comparison groups: (a) mainstreamed children and classes of regular teachers who participated in a practicum model of mainstreaming in-service, (b) mainstreamed children and classes of regular teachers who participated in a videotape model of mainstreaming in-service, and (c) mainstreamed children and classes of regular teachers who received no treatment (control group) .

This paper gives a brief summary of the perceptual-motor theories of Kephart, Cratty, and Delacato, and discusses some of the research resulting from their theories. It also includes a resource book of perceptual-motor activities covering the areas of gross-motor skills, fine-motor skills, spatial awareness, body image, and laterality/ directionality. The activities have been arranged in chronological order according to skill level. The resource book is a compilation of materials from a perceptual-motor workshop held in the summer of 1978 by the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

During the 1979-80 school year, two Algebra I classes were involved in a study to test the effects of two methods for reviewing homework problems on students' achievements and attitudes. One review procedure was to solve and explain each problem during the class period that followed the class period in which the homework assignment had been made. The other procedure involved solving and explaining only the problems that students requested to have reviewed. An analysis of the Tolt Junior-Senior High School faculty's use of instructional media showed a need for a program designed to increase the effective use of the Learning Resource Center's available media. This project consisted of developing a series of inservice classes designed to train the teachers to better utilize the overhead, opaque, slide, filmstrip, and 16mm projectors, tape recorders, VTR, microfiche reader/printer, and dry mount press. Appropriate examples have been produced in each medium and a tool created for the evaluation of the inservice program.

This paper is a report of a study investigating the potential of the Vocational Preference Inventory as an instrument to predict the probable effectiveness of students preparing to be teachers. The Vocational Preference Inventory was given to effective teachers and to student teachers who were rated most and least effective by their college supervisors. The resultant profiles from the Vocational Preference Inventory scores were compared. The profiles and the profile interpretations of the effective teachers and the most effective student teachers were much more similar than those of the effective teachers and the least effective student teachers.

The evaluation of the California Teacher Development Project for the 1972-73 project year reports data for four performance criteria. These criteria relate to the expected behavioral changes of teachers involved in an inservice workshop program in individualizing instruction. One criterion relates to teacher knowledge of individualized instruction (cognitive behavior); three criteria relate to teacher attitude toward individualized instruction.
